Group B Strep
I just found out that I tested positive for Group B strep. So as soon as I got home, I Google'd it and now of course I'm freaking out. Has anyone else tested positive?
The only special instructions my OB gave me was to contact them or head to the hospital (depending on the hour of day) if my water broke. Otherwise, I could follow the normal labor instructions they gave me.

Re: Group B Strep
i tested positive when i was pregnant a few years ago and it really didn't change the course of action for me all that much. things may have changed in the last few years, but my doctor said the important thing is the mother needs IV antibiotics 4-8 hours (depending on the antibiotic used) before the baby is born to prevent infection transfer. if, for example, you arrived to the hospital pretty much delivering your baby and there was no time for IV antibiotics, the baby would be more closely monitored after delivery for signs of infection, possibly causing you an extra day in the hospital after a vaginal birth.

I tested positive with my DS. I was induced and they gave me IV antibiotics at the time of induction.

Group B Strep
I had it with my first. It was annoying but not really that bad. I still labored at home as long as I could, then got antibiotics once I got to the hospital. The worst part was that they burned a lot going in. Also the doctor wouldn't break my water until I had two full bags in which took hours. So that didn't help labor go any faster but who knows if it would have made any difference.

I tested negative but my OB didn't seem concerned either way- she just said they'd administer antibiotics when I got to the hospital if I was positive.its pretty common from what I've read.

I tested positive with both kids. They just need to give you IV antibiotics when you go into labor, so you probably shouldn't wait as long to go to the hospital, and if your water breaks definitely go right away. If you're really concerned, speak with your OB so they can reassure you.
With my second, I got no antibiotics because I was progressed too quickly, I was already 8cm by the time I got there. I was lucky in that my water didn't break until she was actually coming out. They did have to watch her, and do a CBC blood panel, but she was completely healthy.

Group B Strep
I tested positive with my 2nd. I ended up with an induction (not bc of GBS) and it lasted over 3 days so I had continuous antibiotics through the IV which sucked because of how long I had to get it for. The first bag burned when it started- they said it was because the first dose is the strongest. Otherwise everything was same old.

Were you induced because of the Group B Strep?

No, I was induced due to Hypertension. Sorry, I should have clarified that...when I re-read my response I can see why it looks like I might have been induced BECAUSE of Group B. I'm not sure that Group B would be reason for them to ever induce though.

Same here for DS 1. I was induced because I was late.

Exactly the same for me. It really wasn't a big deal. You just have to make sure you don't wait too long to get to the hospital if your water breaks.
