Group or Solo Practice
So I met with a pediatrician two days ago...and I really do like her...the only downfalls I can see are that she is a solo practice and she is pregnant--possibly with twins...she said she is always available, but with a newborn(this is her first) I am not so sure. My other option is a group practice which I know a few people use as well...what would you do?

Re: Group or Solo Practice
Im not doing a solo practice any more..I would go with a group.
I did this in the beginning of my OB care and for something else and I got tired of the cancelled appointments b/c the dr. had an emergency...
Especially in the case of a pediatrician you need to know that they are there.

Re: Group or Solo Practice
I have to agree.
For my kids, I have always used a group practice...I just felt more comfortable knowing there would always be someone available.
I had a solo dr. as my OB the first time around, I delivered early and he was away at a conference. The on-call dr. delivered my baby and while he did a GREAT job, he was a stranger.

Re: Group or Solo Practice
I personally feel more comfortable with a group practice. My daughter is only 2 weeks old, and at last week's appointment, our doctor was out for an emergency, so we saw someone else in the practice instead.

Re: Group or Solo Practice
I have always liked solo practices, but in your situation, it doesn't sound like the Dr. is going to be as available as you would like her to be. I bring my son to a single practice ped and he was sick once when the practice was closed for vacation. It was no big deal. I was going to choose a practice closer to me for convenience, but it had about 7 doctors and various NP's/PA's and I was completely turned off by that- how would they know my child? JMO

Re: Group or Solo Practice
many times in a solo practice they cross cover w/ another group. Maybe you can ask if that will be the case in light of her situation?
