growth sonos
I still havent had one but was wondering how they really know what the weight of your baby is? My tummy is not as pointy as most girls so obviously that tape measure thing isnt gonna say if my babys 4 pounds or 10 pounds.

Re: growth sonos
I can only speak for myself but I had growth sonos once a week at the end bc they said my DD was going to be BIG. They said she was about 10-11lbs but they were way off. She was born at 6lbs 15oz!

Re: growth sonos
I don't know how they figure out the weight when they do the growth sonos...
I haven't had one yet and I'm nearly 35 wks. My doctor's office just doesn't believe in doing them in general - they will do one on me at @37-38 wks to make sure the baby is not breech but they dont rely on the 'weight' thing to determine anything else in terms of delivery and such. They measure my stomach every week and feel for the position of the baby by pressing on my tummy but that's about it for now. They have told me it 'seems' like I'm measuring around 1 wk ahead ... only based on belly size and feeling for the baby.. but they also emphasize that its a very "rough estimate" !
Honestly, I hear about so many ladies being freaked out thinking they are going to have humungo babies, only to wind up having small or average babies.. and it winds up their sonos were totally OFF! So I really dont hold much faith in them to be honest..

Re: growth sonos
I go for mine tonight so we will see what they say. I have heard so many stories on here that they were way off though.

Re: growth sonos
I've also heard a lot of stories of them being pretty far off. I was measured just shy of 33 weeks and Luca was already measuring 5lbs, 1oz. With that being said, if I go full term it looks like he'll be around 9 lbs give or take. I don't know, but that seems like a pretty big baby to me.

Re: growth sonos
They kept saying that Damien would be a 10lber. When I went to the hospital the staff midwife asked me what they were estimating his weight to be. I told her and she put her hands all over my belly and said he won't be more than 8lbs. He was 8lbs even

Re: growth sonos
For me, the doctor does a sono. Measures the head, belly and various limbs then that determines how much weighs. I get this at each appointment.
ETS: At my 30 week apt., weighed in at 4lbs 2oz. My doctor said that either I am two weeks further or I will have a baby on the bigger side. IMHO, they really don't know!
