gym won't cancel my membership

i did all they asked, mailed them proof that i met the requirement for cancellation.

they just emailed me with a denial of cancellation

i'm so angry!!

I would ask what the reason is. If you met the requirements I don't see why you would be denied. Get a copy of your contract and the proof again and show them.

If you really meet all the requirements, I would contact my credit card co. and tell them to stop allowing those charges. I don't know the law on this, but if you do meet the gyms requirements for getting out of the contract, they probably will not push the issue any further once they can no longer milk your credit card.

I don't know, thats just what I would do, but I HATE my gym.

CANCEL YOUR CC....then they can't bill you...don't cancel your LINE of credit though just call your CC company and tell them you want a new CC # bc you lost yours or fear someone has it

Be careful with the stop of the payments on the CC. I knew someone who did that and years later found a note in her credit report that she had been deliquent on gym payments.

Can you go to the gym in person with proof and cancel it that way.

I would ask for the manger tell them you already tried to cancel it but the billing company THEY use won't let you. Tell them you would like to resolve it together. If any faxes have to be sent or phone calls made ask the manger to do it while you are there.

I would take it up with both the credit card company and the gym and just keep fighting. Tell the credit card company that you will not continue to use that company's card if it does not get resolved. Threaten to close the account. They really do not want to lose your business.

I know it is too late now, but this is part of the reason that I try not to enter any sort of contracts with automatic payments or automatic renewals.

Whenever anyone gets involved in a situation like this I think of that episode of Friends, when Ross was trying to get out of a membership and it was impossible.

Can you get a doctor's note? I would go the doctor and complain about a body ache that hinders you from physical workouts or even a dermatologist and tell the dr you break out in bad skin rash after sweating form the gym. Have them write you a note.

They cannot deny a doctor's note.

i provided proof that i moved 25+ miles away from one of their gyms. now, they're telling me that they have AFFILIATES that are close enough to use.

next step: dr's note.
