Had a thought about LIF... What does everyone else think?

It seems that there are a lot of questions that are posed to specific groups within each "Special Interest" board, particularly Pregnancy & Parenting. It might be beneficial for site users to have a board dedicated to their specific stage of each.

For example for Pregnancy, a 1st, 2nd and 3rd Trimester board-- along of course with a general Pregnancy board so women at each stage can help each other out.

I think the same thing would work, and perhaps be even more beneficial on Parenting-- in addition to a general Parenting board, you would have for example Newborns/Infants, Toddlers, and so on... But, I haven't really ventured over there yet, so what do I know.

I guess this is similar to LIW with each wedding year having it's on board since the girls who post in each are at the same stage of planning, in addition to the boards for specific subjects.

Just a thought-- I have too much time on my hands these days!!!

I agree- especially for pregnancy. I feel like everyone is all over the place and I don't know who's in what stage of their pregnancy.

I agree that it would be helpful but I think there would be way too many boards then with not nearly as much traffic!

This has come up in the past (on Parenting), and while some thought it was a good idea, others thought it wasn't the best idea for a few reasons:

1. Too many boards to keep track of

2. You benefit from all kinds of people on the boards, even if they're not going through the same experience at the same time as you...for example, if there was a "Newborn" board, I probably wouldn't spend much time over there b/c I have a toddler...so I wouldn't be able to offer much advice over there, BTDT advice for new moms, and so on (although I am not pregnant but do lurk on the pregnancy board sometimes )

While I think its a cool idea, I agree with Marie that it would be a lot of boards and cut down on traffic significantly........

I also thinks its nice that by having everythign together I read posts of mommy's to be in their first trimester about their symptoms and help answer them. I think separating the board would cut down on as many responses and those moms would end up posting their questions on the second tri/ third tri boards.

What I DO think would be GREAT was if there was a way to display how many weeks PG you are right underneath your chat avatar. I find that a lot of times i wish I knew how many weeks PG someone was to help answer their questions better.

Not everyone has a PG ticker in their profile and its a bit of a pain to go hunting for it!

yeah, I didn't think of the traffic issue. Just as a way to organize the questions, etc.

I remember people mentioning along with a forum for just pictures.. but alot of moms/dads mentioned about how they kinda stick to one forum and dont venture to others.. so they wouldnt think to go to another forum and therefore not responding to peoples threads. I dont think poster would get some of the advice or opinions that they get now with it all mixed up like it is KWIM?>

Honestly I think it's overkill. I see what you are saying but I think they are fine the way they are.

While that is a nice idea - I think that is could end up with many people sticking to just their area then others wouldn't benefit from the BTDT people. I know for example on parenting if they split it up to newborns, toddlers etc I think fewer moms of toddlers would end up on newborn to help those moms out and those are the people who were the most helpful when you have the newborn with questions.

I do think its a good idea. Yes, it's a lot of boards, but, your all on the "same page".
There is another chat board that I go on and the pregnancy section is broken down into "Birth Clubs".
Ex: Im due in June, so, I post in the "June 2009 Birth Club" with others that are due in June.

I still like LIF a lot better!!!
Like I said you're on the "same page" as other moms to be, etc.

I see how it would be helpful, but I kind of like reading the posts from the girls that are further into their pregnancy so I know what to expect. I guess it is possible to go to the other boards and be a lurker too.

i have to politely disagree. I think that the new girls that come on BENEFIT largely from the replies on their posts from the girls farther along in their pregnancy...

When I didn't see the heartbeat for example, when we should've....if i was only on a board with other first trimester moms, no one would've had the 'positive and hopeful info' for me. Yes, everyone would've cared as much....but no one in their third trimester would've read it and fm'd me or commented on the thread saying how the same thing happened to them... Yes - i'm sure people not in their first trimester would read the board, but not be as prone to replying...

I think it's a good idea to divide up the parenting board, not so much the pregnancy board. Perhaps have parenting divided up between babies/toddlers and then elementary school. I don't think there should be TOO many boards but I think there is a big difference between someone trying to get through teething and looking for a math tutor for an 8 year old.

While I've become more addicted to this board, I still like that my "other" message board site has a specific July 2009 due date board! But 1st, 2nd and 3rd tri would be a good start.

I was thinking the other night that LIF should do something under people's avatars that show what their due date is - kind of like the Wedding Date on LIW.

There is no way that would happen. we already have too many boards IMHO

I do not think what you are proposing is a bad idea persay but I think one board is better

I think it's an amazing idea -- I was thinking the same thing about having a 1st, 2nd and 3rd trimester board. Great idea Randi!
