Had my first pediatrician interview and didn't like him at all

it started out bad right away. We didn't like the office (it looked run down). They did not have separate waiting rooms for sick vs healthy kids, and when we asked about it, he said there was a study that showed it made no difference, and real estate is too expensive in Manhattan so we shouldn't expect it. When i asked about vaccinations, he said, sternly, I follow what the American Pediatric Association recommends exactly, and I will not bend at all on that, so if you are looking for something else, this isn't a good match and we shouldn't waste our time. He went on to say there is no link to autism, that scientific evidence has proven that, despite the fact that some "playmate" has proclaimed otherwise, and that if I disagree, he believes I am misinformed. He said there's absolutely no flexibility, vaccines start at 2 months, and he will give multiple vaccines at a time. When we were talking about emergencies and calling with questions, he said he takes calls himself or calls back during the week, and on weekends, he has a few drs that rotate taking calls. So I asked what about after hours during the week, like if I have an important/emergency question at 3 am. His answer: "I believe that was implicit in what I just said--it's rotated". We were not happy at all. I have 2 more interviews next week, but now I am worried that I won't like anyone. I think I'm going to try to set up more appointments. ugh, I should have started this process sooner.

We are going through the same thing right now and at 34 weeks I'm getting a little nervous. Several doctors I've spoken also have the same belief on the sick/well rooms and on the vaccines. It's so hard to know what to believe - this has been the most stressful part of the pregnancy for me.

Next time a doctor brings up the vaccination schedule and how they follow what the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends maybe point out to them that the guidelines are from the CDC and not from the American Academy of Pediatrics.

It can be a frustrating process but keep looking and you will find a ped that fits your needs & expectations.

keep looking! my DC came early, 3 days before my consult appointment. I've been using them but I am actually switching because I can't stand the office , it looks icky, and the staff is very nasty!
