Had our Level II yesterday and finally some good news today! (Little long)
Sometimes I dread going to the doctor, because I feel like they are going to tell me about something else that needs to be checked/monitored more, that could potentially harm the baby. I'm a type 2 diabetic, and have been taking care of my sugar levels with diet & insulin...so I know that I'm high risk, but the stress of this pregnancy has been overwhelming with each visit. Since 6 wks, I've been wondering when the other shoe will drop or something, it's utterly terrifying all the time.
Level II was yesterday and we were told that we'd learn if the fact that we have a 2 vessel cord would be a problem or not. I've been on edge for 4 wks, and so nervous. Well we had the sono, and the baby was measuring right on target and looking great! Does not seem (so far) that the 2 vessel cord is affecting the growth of the baby.
But of course they had to frighten me a bit, and the sono tech asked for the doctor to re-scan me and check. I of course was worried, and he started saying that I have excess amniotic fluid around the baby and that it's something to "be concerned about". I burst into tears after the appt. and told DH that I don't know if I can take 20 more weeks of all these "well something else could be wrong...." and just felt like my body is attacking my child or something.
He made me come back today to see my regular high risk OB (he is not my regular, just filling in), and I felt like "here we go again, something else to scare me."
My peri told me that he was quite p*ssed off at how the other doc handled everything, and that in reality it's way too early to measure fluid and freak out....and if anything excess fluid was a good thing because it shows for sure that the 2 vessel cord isn't affecting the nutrition of the baby. Plus he said the index is 20 and I was at a 22, and it's not something to go nuts about this early. He said it was so little concern, he deleted it off my chart and told me not to worry.
In 2 wks we do a fetal echocardiogram (standard for diabetics), and he also said he expects that it will turn up just fine and everything is growing nicely.
I can't begin to explain how much better this makes me feel. A huge weight has been lifted, and while I know there is a chance that I will be told of other possible "what if" scenarios being high-risk....something about this appt. made me feel very positive about the remainder of this pregnant, more so than I have been feeling before.
So yaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!!!!!!!!!!
Check out our LO at 20wks5days -- look at that BELLY!!!!

I'm sorry your OB was initally a DB about everything. I'm so glad to hear though that it's nothing to be concerned about right now and hope you can enjoy the next few weeks!
I know you have some health issues but I think it's the same for most of us ... always waiting for the other shoe to drop ... it's TOUGH!

I'm so happy you can breathe a little easier. I really am beginning to hate these doctors who make you worry over what things can potentially be. It's bad for you and the baby.
I'm just glad everything is looking a lot better.

Some Drs are overly cautious. Don't freak. I also went for the echio and they thought the babys heart was measuring too big, etc... bottom line... he is perfectly fine. They are all just covering their a$$es and making us nuts in the process
Glad the appointment went well overall.

Yup -- team green.
I thought it would be tempting to find out yesterday, but we didn't waver at all for a minute!
The tech let us know that she wouldn't even scan in that area to check, and make sure that no gender is listed on the paperwork to avoid a "slip-up" later on in the pregnancy.

Glad to hear that things went well! I had a 2 vessel cord and needed a fetal echiocargiogram with my son and had no issues at all.

I can totally relate to how you are feeling. With my last practice I truly felt they were constantly diagnosing me with something, making me go for extra appointments, and then retracting the diagnosis. It is so stressful. And although we are done with having any more children at the end of this all (we already have a 2.5 y/o DS) I told DH the stress of this pregnancy has made me want to never be pregnant again.
I am glad your regular high risk doc was able to sort it all out for you and you were able to walk out holding your head up high.
Congrats on the great news!!

I actually thought about your story when I was going into the office today!
How they seemed to frighten you unnecessarily so much, and what stress that must have brought your already stressful pregnancy.
I thought to myself "if they push 290394 tests on me today, I might have to consider a second opinion."
But thankfully my high risk was on my side and I feel much better.
Seriously, I know these docs need to do a bit of "cover your @ss" as a just in case....but the incessant need to freak me out seemed excessive and adding stress to a pregnancy that would otherwise have none!

Hang in there! If you start to feel like its more for money than covering a$$ you have a real problem, which is the point I reached and found the need to get a new doctor.
Hang in there. It will all be over and we will be holding our LOs before we know it

ahhh hang in there!!! i know it is so hard - they always did the same thing to me. It was such a rollercoaster.
Just remember they have to be overly cautious and try to enjoy the pregnancy!
