hair color in a box question

If you are a natural medium brown, can you get a true red head color from a box of hair color? Not auburn, or firey red, but a true red head color. Has anyone done it?

Re: hair color in a box question

I was a bottle redhead for years at home and then started getting it done from a salon. Red is the hardest color to achieve and it fades and weathers the fastest. I think to get that color, you would need a double process--one to strip your hair of its color and the second to dye it red.

That color is gorgeous though!

Also, if you look closely at the right of her hair, it looks like she has some blondish highlighting...

thanks, Ive done red a million times before, but only auburn and BRIGHT red.....never an orangey red. It does fade RIDICULOUSLY fast, so I hate having it done at a salon for it to be completely faded in 2 weeks.

I was thinking Id need to strip my base color first.......

No. I experimented a lot with hair color when I was younger... maybe if you are a hair virgin there is a chance but I think not. Leave it to the pros!

ETA: I should mention that i tried this when I was about 17... it turned pink.
