hair coloring while pregnant

I am 6 weeks 1 day and wanted to re-color my hair before the holidays at a salon, I know some people say you can and some say you can't....what have you ladies heard about that? Is it safe to do??

every doctor has their own opinion on this - i'd ask your doc and see what he/she thinks...

i had my hair professionally done at a salon the DAY before our BFP...but i was convinced AF was on the way....so that was surprising! :)

there are hair coloring things out there that are okay to use - but be sure to ask your doc what specific things he/she does or doesn't like about them...

example: should you avoid peroxide, etc...

I didnt do but that was for my own personal reasons. I would just ask your doctor and then decide for there.

My doctor said not until after the first tri, and then only with ammonia-free dye. I did it at 14 weeks.

Conservative doctors/mommies to be seem to avoid it entirely, but my doctor is pretty laid back but said to avoid all questionable things during the first tri.

My Doc is very laid back and said no problem about coloring or highlighting your hair. He said there's nothing conclusive and the only thing that may get you sick is the fumes so just make sure you're in a well ventilated area. He said if it makes me feel better to wait till 2nd trimester, which is what I did. I had my hair done at about 13 weeks. This was right b4 the Thanksgiving. Next time I'm having it done is the end of Jan b4 we leave on vacation to Aruba.
Like the other girls said... ask your Doc.

I have my hair highlighted, but I waited until the beginning of my 2nd trimester, just to be cautious.

I was going to do my own and just open all the windows- I know DH will be mad but hey I gotta look good

I had a full hair dye when I was 3 weeks or so pg but I didnt even know I had conceived.

Once everything came back saying the baby was fine- I felt better and did it myself at home a week before thanksgiving when I was 27 weeks.

I am 11 weeks and got my hair highlighted today. My doc was comfortable with highlighting, not so much with coloring. My hair colorist made extra sure the highlighting didn't touch my scalp. She's great!

Just to be on the safe side, I do herbal dye that I get from the healthfood store.
