Hairstylist who work out of their home- tipping?

If you go to a hairstylist who does hair out of their house- do you tip?
I have been going to the salon for years so I am not sure the etiquette for this.
I don't want to do the wrong thing and not tip, but I wasn't sure since it's her own business and she sets the prices, etc..

I used to go to someone who worked out of their home. I didn't usually tip because, like you said, it was his business and he set the prices. I did "tip" for Christmas and if the haircut was more complicated or time consuming than usual.

no, you dont have to tip. all the money is going to her

No, I just pay her the cash. Her daughter, though, does do the shampooing sometimes and I tip her.

I just went to her home for the first time. I still tipped her 20% like I would in the salon.

She still performed a service and charged me less then if I went to the salon so it was still a savings for me. Also, she was able to spend more time with me, try out a few new things with styling and ordered the shampoo and conditioner I like without charging me a markup.
