Unless the homeowner that answers the door is coughing or sneezing directly in your kids face, it's highly unlikely your kid will get Covid from Trick or Treating.

Also this....
Close contact is defined as being within approximately 6 feet of someone who is positive for COVID-19, including those who may not yet be showing symptoms. Experts say that contact with someone positive for the virus for about 10 minutes or longer can result in transmission.
So just get your candy and get the hell out of there and you should be fine. 10 minutes of direct contact with an unmasked stranger is a long time

Yup, and I've seen that further defined as being in a small room. Not outdoors. People are nuts, but stay home. More candy for my kids

People are nuts? This is an excellent example of the shaming that other people have referred to on this thread and other threads. It is very juvenile. You do you and others will do what’s best for them.
I think the only people who should be called out are people who are not complying with the regulations. As long as people are doing what they are supposed to do I don’t think there’s a need to name call or condescend.

Well it’s coming from a presumably grown woman who’s excited about extra candy for her children so...

Los Angeles just canceled Halloween. Trick or treating, parties, haunted houses etc. are BANNED.
Giving Cuomo a week to do the same.

Considering hair salons and schools are still not open in California, that doesn't surprise me.
But my question- how do you stop people from having a party in their home?

SO effing stupid. Kids are outdoors for Halloween, there is literally no reason people cannot still hand out candy one kid at a time or even leave a bowl out for kids to go around and TOT. It couldn't be easier to "social distance" outdoors. I think it's sad for kids that they won't be able to dress up and enjoy the holiday, they have had so much taken from them this year.
As an aside, how will they enforce no parties? I have NO doubt that with Halloween cancelled people will be throwing parties left and right, especially with Halloween on a Saturday.
This is getting ridiculous. Kids can go back to school, we can go out shopping and eat in restaurants but TOT is an issue?? Ummm, ok.

What makes you think Cuomo will do this? We are in good shape. I could see it happening if the infection rate rises to an unmanageable level but in that case we would have a total shutdown again

Yeah I agree Cuomo has been opening things. Bowling alleys, gyms, schools etc. He won't do this for no reason.

I'm not surprised. I posted this earlier that I can see this happening in towns in NJ. This happened during hurricane Sandy. Obviously, you could go to other towns or throw parties so it will not be 100% cancelled. I think it will be up to the towns and mayors.

Yes - I think the decision will be more localized than a Cuomo decision.

Cuomo hasn't been following CA at all. They closed schools months ago and there are a lot more restrictions. But we've been slowly opening

OMG you did? Congratulations! I see he waited for the summer season to be over so that the Shore towns restaurants would have the most economic hardship of course though.

Just heard that NYC is finally allowed indoor dining starting Sept 30th. With 25% capacity and a ton of restrictions that many may not be able to meet especially the smaller ones who can't afford to implement all of it But....Guess why? Another huge lawsuit filed against the state... this time by hundreds of restaurant owners. That's why he opened gyms a few weeks ago. Apparently lawsuits are the only way to get anything moving. Lawsuits talk.....

Im sure Murphy was getting the same pressure. Tbh there were a couple of places who were actually doing limited indoor dining by me. Basically they were done and the town officials were turning a blind eye. Nj number have been so low for several weeks with a few spikes. I’m talking below 1%. There was no reason to hold out till end of summer and decide to open right before a holiday weekend. Or when the upcoming flu/cold season is approaching. Why not start this soft opening in July or beginning of Aug even? Many business owners said the 25% opening won’t help if the Gov. didn’t lift the restrictions in the next two weeks. They will have to close for good.
The rules/opening plans are hypocritical & contradictory at best.

So I just read the following from the Niagra Reporter (not sure if it's true or not)
“The Niagara Reporter newspaper has learned from a high-level democratic lawmaker from New York State that Governor Andrew Cuomo plans to cancel trick-or-treating across the state at the end of September or first week of October.”

And how, pray tell, will they enforce that? What cop is going to go after children trick or treating? They don't even give a shit about junkies having sex in broad day light in mid town and shooting up. Please. Come after me. Write me the summons. I have it from a high level source that cops are done enforcing his nonsense.

Lol, omg. I don’t blame them.
I truly feel like trying to cancel Halloween is going to force people to hold parties and gather in groups. Which is worse according to the guidelines. But then again why should anything make sense.
Did you hear about the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade going virtual? I find this so funny.

I knew he would cancel Halloween. Hope it isn’t true. But if it is...I’m really going to ramp up my trick or treating activities with more decorations and full size candy bars for all who come to my door!

Did you hear Christmas is cancelled as well? No live trees will be allowed in your home because we cannot be 100% sure that they do not harbor viruses, but feel free to live stream the virtual tree on Zoom. Similar to the Yule Log but more high tech.
