Happiest Baby On the block SPIN -OFF
Ok, It works on Noah too. But it puts him to sleep. IS this what we want?
Noah is 6 weeks old, and I dont know WHAT to do with him when hes awake, like now , its 9:29 at night and he just woke up from a LONGGGG nap and I dont know what to do with him to keep him from cranking?
Do I do the S's?
During the day , we walk, we eat, we nap and the rest of the time , its like he wants to be entertained and I dont know what to do. I read to him, I sing, I talk etc, but then its always like, ok, he wants to go to sleep again..DO I let him? And each activety he is ok with for small bursts, 15 minutes etc...
And he seems to be sleeping more now at 6 weeks then 2-3 weeks ago?
I just feel confused again?
NB moms...what do you do with your babies? Like at times other then the day time?

He might be sleeping more if he's going through a growth spurt. When Emma was that little, really all she did was sleep. She would be awake for a half hour or so and then doze off. You should probably let him sleep. I'm sure he needs it. It's so rough being a baby you know!

Re: Happiest Baby On the block SPIN -OFF
From 6 weeks until 4 months, my DD was only awake in 1 1/2 hour intervals. She pretty much napped 2 hours in the am, 2 hours in the afternoon and then another hour in the early evening.
She would sleep 8pm - 5am have a bottle and sleep until 8am. Then nap 10 - 12, eat/play, nap 1:30 - 3:30, eat/play, nap 5 - 6, eat/play bed for the night at 8pm.
Boy do I miss those days!!!!
I think everything you are doing is great. I sang alot, talked alot, she liked her playmat, a Baby Einstein once in a blue moon, went on walks on nice days, visited people, etc.
They still sleep alot at 6 weeks.

Re: Happiest Baby On the block SPIN -OFF
Most of the day is spent sleeping in the papasan swing, honestly. I try to keep her up for at least an hour surrounding each feeding, which comes every three hours. It usually takes her about 30 minutes to finish a bottle, so I'll wake her 15 minutes before the feeding, change her diaper and then make faces, funny noises, exaggerated smiles, bounce her on my knee, what ever it takes to keep her awake and not crying. After she eats, I'll do the same as before for a little while - until she gets really cranky and starts crying a lot. Then I put her back in the swing and she falls asleep....until it's time for the next feeding, and then we do the same all over again. I found that the more I keep her awake during the day, the better she sleeps at night.
Entertaining a newborn is incredibly difficult, I've found....but those little smiles and giggles are what I'm shooting for!
I'm pretty sure they're still supposed to be sleeping a large part of their day away still.

I have NO experience here, but I know what you mean about the baby being awake and "cranking". I guess if it takes the 5 s's to make him calm down and he falls asleep then he needs to sleep? I don't know, but I say do whatever it takes to stop the crankiness!!

I really do the 5s when he is a total crankpot and I can't calm him down.
Right now - there isn't much we do with him. When he's awake we spend ALOT of time outside - he loves it out there. Some time on the gymini, bouncing around the house, watching the mobile, talking, def. not enough tummy time - I have to do that more, we go for lots of walks. It's honestly pretty boring right now.

Re: Happiest Baby On the block SPIN -OFF
This is the EXACT question I asked DH. The 5 S's calm DD, which is great, but it feels like we're forcing her to sleep when maybe she's not tired...but I guess she wouldn't fall asleep if she weren't tired.
Funny that you are asking this exact question!

With my daughter at least, if she's not ready to fall asleep, she won't! So the 5 S's will calm her down. If she's tired - they'll put her right to sleep.
