Happy Friyah!!!
As I am sitting here, waiting for the workday to end and watching the landscapers all around me, I wondered what people outsource now to gain more time in their lives or just don't want to do :)
We don't have a landscaper and we seem to be in the minority, at least on my street.
No house cleaner, no delivery of groceries, sometimes get food delivered but for the price, I would rather go and get it.
We do as much as we can in the house but will hire people for the cesspool, plumber, electrician, to fix anything that can be done at a minimum price.

Re: Happy Friyah!!!
We are like the ONLY people on our block who don't have a landscaper either.
I often sit outside to work or go for walks and the amount of noise from all these landscapers working at once is mind boggling- but that's another thread. My DH just feels as long as he is able bodied and able to , why not cut the lawn himself? He likes the extra exercise- gym rat that he is lol- and he doesn't work, so really no excuse why he can't do it.
We also rarely have to call a professional as he fixes everything himself- from the pool to the pellet stove, to the oil burner We are lucky in that he is very very good with stuff like that From building an outdoor kitchen to renovating a bathroom. We did hire people to do the kitchen because the amount of work was too much for one person, but bathrooms and bedrooms etc he will reno on his own.
We've never had groceries delivered- we won't even have take out delivered- we prefer to go pick it up ourselves.
So I guess the answer is, we don't outsource much.

Same here!!!! Except during the school year, I’ll do grocery pick up. I guess that’s how I get more time lol. I loathe grocery shopping kids ??!!!! I wind up spending more money and interfere with too much quarreling

The landscapers here come on 3-4 different times a week for a few houses. Luckily they don't take too long but yes, the noise is so annoying after awhile. This morning alone there were 2 different ones at 2 houses. I was thinking maybe I should run out there and see who will do ours for the cheapest as it needs to be done. Hubby got a break for 1 week and now it is time lol
My husband is good at some things but bigger jobs we need help. We are lucky we have a friend who is a contractor who has helped up with some things around the house and while we still give him money, it is much less than hiring someone else.

OMG both the kids and hubby have me spend more money if I take them along. I try my best NOT to but then they can't complain if they come along and I forget something or they don't like it.
It's a catch 22

Re: Happy Friyah!!!
We have landscapers, what takes them about a half hour saves us hours every weekend so for us it's worth paying someone.
We've always been huge DIY'ers (we renovated our first home top to bottom all by ourselves) so we tend to do a lot ourselves. Rarely do we pay anyone to do work inside the house.
I always go food shopping myself.

My husband owns his own landscaping company. But my boys mow our lawn. Hubby taught them how to use the sit on lawn mowers. I clean my own house, and my pool myself.
Happy Friday!!!

We have landscapers and a cleaning service. Also a handyman when we need something that we don’t have time to do.
I shop for groceries myself. I like to choose my own meat and produce.

I have done Peapod in the past but I actually like walking around seeing all the new things and yes, the meat and produce are big to me too. I need to touch and see what is available lol

Re: Happy Friyah!!!
We had landscapers but now my son is doing it. Part of a boy scout badge is setting a monetary goal for something you want and to save for it. This is it. No housecleaner because my husband and children are home so what is the point? By the time I get home from work, they will have ruined it. No groceries delivered because I don't like people picking out my groceries. My husband has really committed to learning to do such around the house. He rewired some outside lights that would have cost a fortune and that was a couple of years ago and they still work. He also renovated a small bathroom which looks great.

I always wonder how people with kids have a house cleaner. I would need an Alice who lives with us and can clean every.single.day lololol.

Re: Happy Friyah!!!
I don’t have a house. I rent. I pay for street cleaning, garbage, landscaping, etc. in my rent as an extra cost. It isn’t utilities, really. It’s the previous costs, plus heating and water. It’s metered and if I go over I pay extra.
I pay electricity separate.
I don’t have a cleaner. I try to do repairs on my own, but most of that is covered by my landlord. There is an association that helps with legal disputes for what landlords should fix.
I am responsible for my own kitchen and appliances since I installed that.
I shop for my own groceries at Aldi or Lidl. I do, however, get Hello Fresh. I very rarely order take out.
I reuse things all the time and try to make use of things at least twice.

Some days renting sounds so much better when things break down or just need to be updated. :

Happy Friyah!!!
I’m always surprised how many people around us have landscapers. Our properties are SO small. My DH usually mows the lawn but right now my nephew is trying to earn money so he comes over once every 10 days or so and it takes him 30 minutes tops to mow and edge the lawn.

Re: Happy Friyah!!!
I never wanted a house for this reason.
However, in a lot of apartments here you have to install your own kitchen. That’s not cheap! But you get to take it with you…
I’m still responsible for my appliances, lighting, and parts of the bathroom (you get the tub, shower, sink, and toilet. That’s it. You are responsible for cabinets, mirrors, etc.
A lot of landlords are crooks here. Thankfully I am a member of the renters’ association and that gives me legal coverage. A past landlord of mine tried to hold back my security deposit because he needed new wooden floors. In the end I won, but the stress of a lawsuit was not worth it. Americans aren’t as sue happy as the Germans it seems. They sue over everything.

Same here for the most part. It will take my husband an hour TOPS if he does everything and does it slowly and perfect. The landscaper next door is in and out, NO LIE, in 5 minutes. 2 guys though but still. Quick money.

Yeah renting can be a lot sometimes and then you don't have anything when you leave. At least we can sell the house and make a profit and move on.

Re: Happy Friyah!!!
DH and I are not very handy, so we definitely hire people, and we have landscapers. We order takeout for delivery probably two to three times per week.
We don't have a housekeeper. We used to order groceries online, but the price was really ridiculous, and they were constantly out of basic items like milk, ground turkey, etc. I'm usually able to make it work out so that I can go shopping at off-peak times, so it's not super crowded.

I enjoy fixing pretty much anything and everything around the house. Electrical, plumbing, masonry, drywall, etc. There's very little I can't fix. DW cuts the grass. She likes the alone time it gives her. We have all battery powered lawn equipment, so it's just a matter of plugging in the battery and turning it on. No gas, not pulling the cord to start, no loud noises. We don't hire anyone on a regular basis for anything. We typically only hire someone when it's a massive job, or permits and inspections are required.

Same. lol My Dh even taught himself how to service and repair the oil burner so we don't even need that done anymore.

We out source as much as we possibly can. Benefit of no childcare spending? Maybe. We work a ton and the little time we have at home, we don’t want to spend it doing heavy lifting.
I don’t have a cleaning service because nobody will clean like I do. Though I’m considering getting someone just for the bathrooms and floors so I can save time there as well.

We have a landscaper but other than that DH and I do everything else ourselves. I've never had a cleaning lady either.
I do my own groceries although I have used Instacart on a few occasions I prefer to do my own shopping.
We clean our own pool, do fall and spring lawn cleanup ourselves, etc.
Major renovations like bathroom tear downs, electrical upgrades we have outsourced but other things like installing light fixtures, minor renos we DIY.

Happy Friyah!!!
We go back and forth with landscapers. Every time my husband starts out thinking he doesn’t need one- he is scrambling to find one because it takes him forever and it takes them 20 mins top.
Never had a house cleaner because I can’t justify paying someone to clean my house and my kids make a mess five mins later.
We hire someone to open and close the pool. We used to do it but we always end up arguing, especially when I always drop the cover and leaves into the pool. So for the sake of our marriage we hire someone haha
