Hard Wired Stove

So our new electric stove got delivered today. I thought it was a quick pull out the old one and plug in the new one. Turns out the old one was hard wired into the wall!!! We now have to have an electrician put a socket into the wall to support the new stove. Anyone had to go through this before? What should I expect to pay.

Re: Hard Wired Stove

I can't see this really costing too much. If the wire ran to the stove is already good (nice thick gauge) and you already have the proper breaker at your panel, this probably won't cost much.

I'd say you could probably find somebody do it for $100-150.

This is something I may even attempt to DIY if it were me. You are just connecting the wire to an outlet.

Re: Hard Wired Stove

does you new stove have a socket? they usually just come with the exposed wires to attach to the wires in the wall

Re: Hard Wired Stove

You are right - just opened it up and it has the exposed wires - not the plug and socket. I didnt realize the new products still had that. Its a GE Profile so I assumed it was plug in. Disconnecting the old wires and connecting the new should be easy right?

Re: Hard Wired Stove

Simple, turn off the power to the stove in your basement (the breaker), turn the stove on and verify that the power is off, disconnect the old stove, connect the new and presto you just saved 100-150.
