Hardwood Floors Question

After sanding back to the natural wood... should I then go with semi gloss or satin? Which gets more scuff? Does anyone have pics of the difference in their house? Thanks... I am sooo clueless..

Re: Hardwood Floors Question

We got the satin b/c we were told it doesn't show scuffs and scratches as much.

Re: Hardwood Floors Question

I did high gloss and two extra coats... 5 coats total. Yes, it took almost 2 weeks but my floors look like a sheet of glass is covering them and I also didn't want to have to do them for a loooooong time.

All of the furniture has those furniture pads on the bottom and we don't wear shoes in the house so no scuff marks.

Re: Hardwood Floors Question

We did a high gloss and 5 years later, still looks greast. However, they are very susceptible to scratches. Even the tiniest bit of dirt can leave scratches, so you do have to be careful.

I wish I had taken before pics so you could see how bad they were at first and how great they look now. The floors were original to the house built in 1962.

Re: Hardwood Floors Question

Do you do this sanding and staining or glossing yourself? We just bought a house with hardwood floors, and i am totally clueless on how to take care of them.
I thought they were in ok condition until i just saw those pics posted- i want my floors to look like that!!

Re: Hardwood Floors Question

We have high gloss and LOVE it. I agree though, you have to be very careful with dirt, not to spread it and have it scratch. Other than that, it's easy to clean and easy to polish up. Vacumn, swifer and your set--that's the same for matte.
