Harry Potter was written for children - Rowling said in interviews that she was surprised and happy that adults got so into them as well - but primarily they are written for kids. They have great characters - but are pretty easy to read out of necessity. . . though the fact that kids are reading 700 page books is pretty awesome.
BUT...it's generally adults lining up for the books...I agree that it's great kids are reading it and it may help get children into reading.
I'm talking more about the adults who stand in line for it.
BTW: Don't get me wrong - I think it's great that people who don't normally read go out and read this book. I just don't get buying a book at midnite...KWIM?

Having just finished Book 7, and feeling rather breathless and entranced. I have to say YES. Harry Potter is amazing.
I just finished it less than 5minutes ago.. I AGREEEEe.. It was amazing and yes I did stand online for the book at midnight. I love it. I love that my special ed, emotionally disturbed students talk to me about reading books. The ones that can't read are watching the movies. I think it is AMAZING!!!!! I got them bertie bots beans and fed them to them. They loved it. I have a griffyndor tie to wear to summer school on Monday.. just to connect with the kids. These books do it.
And the ending.. was spectacular. I was sobbing so hard at one point that I could hardly breathe.... YES I AM HARRY POTTER GEEK.... lol I a huge geek..

I'm soooo not wasting my time standing on line for a $34 book that I can get at Walmart for $17 minus the crowds.
They're pretty much that much everywhere right now, actually. DH read somewhere that Harry Potter books actually don't make bookstores like borders and barnes and noble any money because they're so heavily discounted.
And I love all the hoopla. I think it's really quite amusing. I went a party on Friday night to pick up my friend's book... Seeing all these adults in robes was really funny. And it was just a great aura of excitement there.
I hadn't planned on going... i had my book delivered... but it was just a great feeling.
And yes, I finished the book in two days. Not going to lie. It was great though. And I'm sorry if you don't understand all of it - or if you just decide you 'hate it' without giving the book a chance. That's your choice. As it's the choice of the rest of us to go bonkers over a 17 year old wizard.
