Harvey Karp is coming to Alex's school
On Thursday night.
He's the author of the happiest baby/toddler on the block.
Any questions you ladies want me to relay to him?

How cool!! Ask him if he can come to my house and stop Lily from biting me & having her meltdowns - oh, and get her to sleep later in the morning.
ETA: seriously, I've been reading conflicting advice on getting a 17 month old to stop biting her mommy. If you can, ask his advice on that. Thanks!

Ok, will do!
I'm going to ask him how to get my child to stop running around the house with a garbage can on her head That, and how to get her to ignore what she's reading and eat broccoli again

Thanks, Beth. I read one thing that tells me to ignore it, something else says tell her sternly "No, that hurts Mommy," another book says to just redirect her to something else.... Ugh!! That's too funny - Lily likes to "read" something while she eats too.

Honestly, and this is just my opininion, but I think a lot of it has to do with your child. I tried the ignoring thing and that certainly didn't work because Alex bites to get attention, so if I ignored it, she just kept doing it!
For her, the most effective tool was to remove her - when she was younger and didn't understand the concept of timeout, I'd just remove her from me, put her on the floor, tell her NO, that HURTS mommy and walk away. When she got older and understood the timeout concept, I would put her in timeout for a minute or two and then go back in, sit on the floor eye level with her and explain why she was put in timeout.
She hasn't bitten in quite a long time as a result. Though, just yesterday she got mad at me because I offered her carrots instead of crackers, so she hit me. And then she looked at me like "uh oh, I'm in trouble" and walked herself into timeout

Thank you! I think you're right and she's doing it to get attention. Usually she does it when I'm at the sink or getting her lunch/dinner ready. I'll try your suggestion.

Re: Harvey Karp is coming to Alex's school
How to get my 11 month old to play alone!!
It was 20 plus minutes of screaming and fit throwing while I cooked dinner last night.
But if I just sat next to him he stopped and played without looking at me at all.
He doesn't want to play WITH me, he just wants me near all the time.
