Has anyone added a family member to their cell phone plan?

aside from DH or a SO, have you added your parents, siblings, etc to your cell plan?

if so, how is it working out? any issues with them using up all your minutes, etc?

We added my mom. Verizon-$9.99 to add and we have not had to up minutes we dont use too many min's though.

we added DHs parents to ours.
so far, its working out ok... they are very frugal so they get the whole not going over the minutes thing LOL we look at the bill every month and all of their calls are pretty much after 9- they wait till after 9 to call people when its free...
his dad did ask us to teach him text messaging, but we don't have a text plan. so we made it VERY clear that we get charged per text message- LOL he never asked again!
so its been working out pretty well. as far as payment, we also have a unique situation in that we bought their house from them, and they didn't have a mortgage left on it, so we pay them our mortgage payment... so we work out the cell phone payment with that.. we pay them a little less mortgage every month to make up for the cost of their cell phone.
kinda complicated, but its working out i think you just have to set firm boundaries in the beginning so each person knows what to expect.

Yep I added my mom. She uses 30 minutes a month for emergencies if that I paid me for the whole year upfront. I think with tax it was $144 for the year.

We have my mom - no issues at all. She doesn't use the phone much and most of the calls are to my cell anyway so it does not use the minutes.

we added my mi - its worked out well, she doesnt use the phone really at all, it was just to have..so no porblems with minutes

i thought about it--i had a sibling that wanted me to add them to our family plan that DH and i already have....the reason was that they couldn't get a phone line from verizon themself--due to poor credit.

unfortunately i think i've watched waaay too many judge joe brown and judge judy shows to add my sibling to my phone plan. i thought to myself "um--their credit sux, they ran up a large phone bill with their last provider and now they can't get credit for a phone' noooo way. they were upset that i said no--but the last thing i need is to ruin my credit for them.

they wound up waiting and getting their own line later.

We added my sister and her fiance. My husband gets a discount so it was cheaper for everyone. So far its been working out. We have the verizon and its pretty easy to see how many minutes everyone has used so if we go over we figure out who went over and they pay the extra. SO far so good

We added my mom and there are no problems. My mom rarely uses the phone. She uses it so infrequently that I encouraged her to use it more.

We have FIL on our plan and he uses his phone exactly twice a year when he is camping.

It's worked out great especially cause MIL thinks the phone bill must be HUGE cause she is constantly giving us money for it

my brother added me to his plan. i get 900 mins a month. and i think its around 60, i never went over my mins.

I added my mom last year because it didn't make sense for her to pay so much per month for a phone she hardly used. I added DH when he moved back from Boston as he was on another provider. Now my sis wants to join my plan too. It hasn't presented a problem because I hardly use my phone, I have one issued by work, which I mainly use. And most of my friends are in-network so it doesn't count against them.

I had my grandmother and just recently added my brother. I charge my brother the addition to what it cost to increase my minute plan iand also for the unlimited text messaging.

I just checked my bill and last month alone he racked up over 3500 minutes. Thankfully most were nights/weekends plus we have a lot of roll over from previous months so we werent charged any addl fees.

I added my sister when Verizon first had the family plans available years ago because she was 16 and wanted a phone. It wasn't bad about $9.99 a month and she had a limit on what she could use and I think she went over once and paid for it herself. But now we have our own lines.

My husband and I have the family plan with 2 of our kids on it. I forget how many minutes, but its never over. We also have unlimited texting.

We share a plan with DH's mom. It is fine. She uses a lot of minutes, but we have a big enough plan for all three of us.

we added my sisters. it works out fine. we went over a couple of times. in the case that it is not clear cut who used the most minutes, we just split it.

I added my mom to my plan because I pay most of her bills anyway. We share a pool of minutes and we have only gone over the limit once. She went WAY over the limit and it cost me $500. But since then it has been fine.

added my MIL no issues because I know she wont use up a lot of minutes its just for emergencies and for calling us so the minutes are unlimited.

I added my niece. No issues with her using up our minutes, she is a texting maniac (which is fine, she's under the unlimited text plan), but it does get annoying having to ask my sister for the money every month.
