Has anyone been on prednisone while BFing? Some questions, a pity party...
Does prednisone make a BFing baby more awake? Does it effect supply?
I am having a bad flare up and the doctor put me on prednisone. DD was basically up yesterday, a little overtired by night. Then I could not get her to sleep for the life of me until 2 am in my own bed. Maybe part of it was I tried to put her in the crib, swaddled and she woke right back up and then I put her in the swing and she was not having any of it. She woke up again at 4:45 and then again at 7.
Needless to say I am exhausted, especially because i am feeling worse today.
I was also wondering if steroids effect milk production. She wanted both breasts where usually she takes one and falls asleep. I was on 15mg and I just took 20 today because I feel horrible.
Note to self-don't experiment with child's sleeping arrangements when you are too ill to deal with the repercussions.

It should not affect milk production but she will probably want to eat more, which might be why she wanted both breasts. I don't know about the restlessness though... was she fussy or just awake?

LB, she was fussy at first, but then awake in the swing, smiling, singing to herself. It was all very cute-but really not necessary at 5 am!

I wasn't on it while breastfeeding- but I have been on it several times. It causes me terrible insomnia/sleeping issues and makes my appetite out of contol.
But I would assume that it doesn't cross into the supply if you're on it, or does it? I did use a steroid inhaler while bfing- and I have a child who is quite tall for her age (and was a real chunky monkey till she was about a year) and I always wondered if that had caused it.

My DD has croup and the Dr. gave her prednisone. She said to give it to her during the day because if I gave it to her at night she would be up all night. I would assume the same would happen if it gets passed through BM. But I really don't know! Sorry you had a rough night. Hope you feel better soon :)
