Has anyone been to any high end hair salons in NYC and think it is worth it??
like federic fakkai or bumble & bumble? In NYC, the haircuts are always much more. just wondering if it is worth it. i have been going to the same girl for years. i am happy with her but was thinking aobut going to NYC to treat myself to a fabulous hairstyle and color! i know this sounds stupid but do you think i can get a great haircut and color in NYC besides it being expensive

yes! i worked for FF many years ago and most of the stylists are great. If he is still there, i would reccomend Seije. not sure of spelling but pronounced say-g.

yes, i've been to frederick fekkai. it was a friggin nightmare. I walked out of there as a platinum blonde and I hated it. I went back and made them correct it...especially for the $400 I paid!!
My BIL also went there and hated it. They blew his hair out (he has curly hair) and made him look ridiculous.
It was not worth it imo.

I have been to Bumble and Bumble and it was fine..in my opinion nothing special. I also didn't think it was THAT posh, nice but not worth the price.

My coworker gets her hair done at Oscar Blandi. Her hair always looks great. The cut is $200 and the color (single process) is about $85.

not sure if this will help, but i went to Ouidad b/c i have curly hair and i LOVED the cut i got there.
it was pricey but worth it, IMO. i am trying to grow out my hair (again ) so it will be a while before i go back, but since they are the only place that's ever given me a decent cut, i don't think i'll be going anywhere else.

I go to Devachan (curly hair) and love it. My cousin goes to Oscar Blandi - her hair always looks nice. But she has very long, straight hair .........I don't really 'get' spending $200 on a cut for that 'type' of haircut. If you have something precise, or problem hair - I think it's worth it -

I started seeing a Jr. stylist at Bumble and Bumble after my stylist moved to Miami. He gives me a great haircut and the price for the Jr. stylist is not much more than what I was paying before.

Re: Has anyone been to any high end hair salons in NYC and think it is worth it??
I have been to:
bumble & bumble - ok, nothing special vidal sasoon - this was years ago, GREAT cut (are they even still around? Butterfly Studio - for eyebrows. They are supposed to be great at cuts and color, but never tried them for that - $$$$.
And up until about a month ago, I had been going to Louis Licari for color for about 4 years. It's actually not that much more that my new place on LI. I was always really happy there and may go back, I was just looking for something more convenient. I used Yolanda. The place itself is nothing fancy and they are all really nice.

There's an art to cutting hair in a straight line that still looks right when you turn in various directions, JMO.
I think that a high end salon on Long Island can get the same job done as one in Manhattan.

When I lived in CA I went to Frederic Fekkai and he himself cut my hair and he did a nice job but not worth the $400 I have been to a few high end places in NYC but now I am happy with my girl at Damien West in the Village.

Re: Has anyone been to any high end hair salons in NYC and think it is worth it??
I went to Bumble and Bumble a few times and I was never overly impressed. I felt it to be more like a factory, just pushing you along from highlights to cut. I go to a place on the upper east side that i LOVE and isn't as expensive (still not cheap) but they do an amazing job and they're super friendly. Let me know if you want the name!

I would recommend Irene hair salon on upper eastside. She used to work for one of the hair salon and then opened her own . http://www.irenel.com/home.htm

I used to go to Nick Arojo's studio and loved my hair. It was $$$ but I had so many compliments on my cut and color at the time.
