A group of us went to Tony DiNapoli's on a Saturday night in January. It was very noisy. There were 10 of us and it was hard to talk across the table.
The food is served family-style. They do give you enough food. The food was good.

Either place is very good. I think I like Tony's better but you can't wrong at either place.

I have been to the Tony's uptown a few times - I love it! The food is really good. It is a little noisy since it's mostly bigger groups. There is not much room to wait but that's the only drawback.
I went to Carmine's once - it was ok but not great. All the dishes had way too much garlic - that's the only thing I remember about it.

I've been to Carmine's. I liked some of the stuff a lot.. other stuff was just okay. It was more the portion sizes and the fantastic service that made it worth my while. I would go back.

I LOVE Carmines. Gets packed but I think you can make reservations for large groups. Love the stuffed artichoke!

I've been to Tony's a few times. The food is good and as the other poster's said it is noisy and crowded.

Love carmines - been there many times the upper west side and midtown location. The food is good - what you would expect though for a reasonable family style place. I always have liked everything I have eaten there from app's to deserts. It's great for groups.

Been to Carmines. Food is good and mainly for a large group of people b/c the portion size is huge and you get a few dishes and share.

I've been to both. Tony's is def. the better of the two.
I didn't like Carmines at all. I thought the food was ok, but I hated the idea of ordering without a menu. We couldn't even see the wall menu from our seat.
Tony's was better. We were happy with the food and service there.

i've been to carmines all the way up town. i think there is one in times square as well. its served family style, usually quite crowded and loud. and i think you can get reservations with your size group though. otherwise you have to wait.
they do have good food and their veal ossubuco is fabulous!!
