The nursery school I chose has a 2 year old program 2 hours twice a week. They will offer him some snacks during this time period.

1. Do you feel this is a good age to drop DC off alone at a nursery school? My DH's parents are saying he is too young. They are making me feel guilty now.

2. Did you have any luck with the seperation at two years old? I'm not sure how he will act when I leave. This class is literally called a seperation twos program.

I know a lot of you have kids in daycare from an early age. This will be the first time DS will be on his own without me or DH. He starts in Sept. and I'm already getting nervous. Sorry Chat Icon

Andrew has been doing this since Sept. I knew he was ready. He is very independent and needed to make some little friends.

It worked out great!! It was harder for me in the beg then him. He had his days here and there were he would get upset but mainly because he was tired and cranky. It had nothing to do with school itself.

It was the best decision we ever made!!!!!!! He has learned soo much and I am so proud of him.

We enrolled him in their summer school program and it is 3 days a week for 3 hrs and then in Sept will be doing the same. For my DS, 3 days is better then 2. He loves it.

That sounds great.

I felt it was important to get him out and interact with other kids. He has been under my mom's care since he was born part time while I'm at work. Then he's with me the rest of the days. He's the only baby in the family so he doesn't really play with a lot of other kids. The only time he sees other children is at the park. I want him to learn to share and all that...I knew I had to get him in a different surrounding when he started to growl like one of my mom's little dogs Chat Icon

I guess I'm just getting nervous about it already and it's 5 months away!

I enrolled my DD in a 2 year program, except she went once a week for two hours. My DH was against it because he thought she was too young (she was just turning 2 that September). The only difference for us is that I worked until she was almost 2, so I guess she had been used to being without her parents during the day--but like your son, she was with the grandparents and not too many other children.

She had no problem whatsoever. My DH was grateful that I "won" that battle, especially because DD's a shy kid by nature and we wanted her to get out and about around different kids/adults. Some kids in the class did freak out, but the parents were allowed to stay the first couple of weeks and at least one mom never really left at all all year. The school probably will do all they can to keep the children and the mommies happy and comfortable with the program.

Here's my best testimonial for the program...I enrolled my younger DD (who'll be 2 next month) for the same program in September--except two days! Chat Icon

Can I ask what kind of snacks did they give your two year old or did they not offer them any snacks?

When I went for orientation they had given the 2 year old minature cupcakes which was fine, they were celebrating one of the children's birthday. They also said they would off them grapes cut in fours not sure what else but I will ask them the kind of snacks they plan on giving.

i think it depends on the child...

around here programs start at 2 1/2 and most schools want them potty trained. DD was ready at 2 (minus the potty training) and never had any separation issues when she started at 2 1/2. i think me taking her to a drop off babysitting group starting at around 18 months aided the transition, it got her used to being somewhere else without mommy fir a short period of time.

in the last 4 months DD has learned a lot (both good and "bad"). i think it's important for her to learn how to socialize and get over this whole "mine, mine, mine" thing she has going on, especially now with DD#2 in the picture Chat Icon ...

however, i think there are some children who are not ready and if so there is no reason to push it!

Oh boy forgot to ask them about diaper changes. I never asked them about the potty traing and they never told me about it and it wasn't in their contract either...Also the program will start at 2 and my ds will be turning just two when the program starts.

To be honest I think he'll be fine when I drop him off with a nice clean diaper till the time I pick him up. I mean #2 can happen but I can't see them not changing the diaper for hime in that case.

Usually Teddy Grahams or Goldfish or something like that with a little juice. If it was someone's birthday the mom may have brought in cupcakes.

DD just turned one and I'm thinking about enrolling her in Sept 2010 in a 2 year old program (which meets two days a week).

There is a kid in his class with a severe allergy so they get Cape Cod Potato Chips, Certain Brand Pretzel Rods, Natural Animal Cookers and other weird thingsChat Icon

He is Potty Training and if he has to go he just asks the teacher. When he was in diapers, they only had to change him once and that is because he stunkChat Icon

I send my son and he absolutely loves it. At his school theey change diapers for the 2 year olds. As for snacks they do a rotating schedule with all the kids in the class. I usually bring goldfish. Don't let anyone make you feel guilty. You are his mother and if you want to send him you can. My son has grown so much since starting.

DD started nursery school at 2 1/2. She loved it.. I never had any separtion problems at all. She meets 3 days a week 3 hours a day and they get one snack, which is usually a juice and goldfish or crackers.

I think it was great for her, she's made so many friends. She can recognize almost all letters of the alphabet and write quite a few of them at 3 years old!!!

Jack will just have turned two when he starts in Sept.

He is going two days a week - 2 hours each day and I know he's going to love it. He's such a little social butterfly that I think (hope) that he'll have the best time!
