Has anyone ever broken/sprained your ankle?

I'm starting to get really frustrated. I don't know if my nakle is broken yet and I need to go for another Xray and eventually an MRI. I know I damaged the ligaments badly on both sides, but that seems to really be healing..the problem is htere is still this pain inside, it feels like it's near the bone. I don't go back to the doctor for another week. I'm not sure what I should be doing.

If you have broken your ankle, what was your healing process like? If you've done both..how could you tell the difference? I had a severe sprain with a minor break a few years ago and the pain was nothing like this

it's been almost 3 weeks and I am going stir crazy!

Re: Has anyone ever broken/sprained your ankle?

I fractured mine when I was a kid. It swelled up immediately and I couldn't put any weight on it what so ever. About a week after it was wrapped and started to heal a bit I was able to put some pressure on it and did so for a day or two which only made it bad again. I remember having to hop across the room b/c that's where my crutches were.

Several years ago, I pulled a ligament in my knee - it was crippling for the first 2 - 3 days and then really stiff and sore for about 6 weeks. The pain/stiffness gradually decreased over that time.

I hope you feel better soon. Chat Icon

I broke my ankle at around 15. My ankle looked like there was a golf ball in it. It swelled up very badly. I had it in a cast for about 6 weeks. Actually, my ankle never really healed right, either. Its actually still swollen looking -- but the doctor said because of the way I fractured it, it wouldn't ever be the same. No pain, though! I'll just never live my dream of being an ankle model Chat Icon

Have you gotten another opinion?

I sprained my ankle (it was walkable) and tore ligaments (it was not walkable).

Sprained ankle was minimal healing - maybe a week? Torn ligaments was a few months of pt & 7 years later still hurts at times.

I sprained my Ankle a couple of years ago, and I have broken other bones in my body....but I have to say Nothing hurt more or longer then my Sprained Ankle. I can still remember that feeling.

I would call the Doctor....and Explain what you are experiencing. He may want to see you again.

Re: Has anyone ever broken/sprained your ankle?

I have done both, more than once... honestly the healing of the break was better than the sprain. Unfortunatley with a sprain it never heals back to the way it was. It is possible that you did alot of ligament damage and the ligaments closest to the bone are taking longer to heal. Or the other possiblity is that you may have chipped the bone very slightly which would cause discomfort.

I broke my foot and badly sprained my ankle. I STONGLY suggest going to see a physical therapist. These people are miracle workers.

Re: Has anyone ever broken/sprained your ankle?

I have sprained it before and it turned out I had also previously chipped the bone I think. It was like a softball. the docotrs couldn;t believe it. I had an aircast and Physical therapy, but this is so much worse. I am in a cam walker and I had cruthces for weeks and I still need them if I'm going out. I am just worried.

You're right when I chipped it I didn't even know, when it was a bad spain afterward it was bad. I guess I can't tell. I am starting tog et concerned.

I have another xray tonight and a doctor's appointment early next week. We'll see. I'm just annoyed that after 3 weeks I have no answers. I'm so impatient. I want it to get better.

My brother in law's mom just broke her ankle a few months ago and they had to rebreak it and do surgery..I'm so afraid of that!
