Has anyone ever had cortizone injections in their back?

I hurt my back a while ago and my 2 lowest dics that sit about my butt are very degenerated. They are almost sitting on top of each other. Physical Therapy did not work so the doc wants me to go to a Pain Management Specialist. I went on the website and it seemed like a whole to do--I have to basically get an epidural, then have die injected, then the cortizone. Then I have to eat and drink something and rest for the rest of the day. I thought they just put in the injection and that was it.
My last option will be surgey. Im only 28 and surgery will put me out of work for at least 2 months. My problem is my Dh and I want to start TTC over the summer. I have a very bad injury on my right ankle that I have had 3 reconstruction surgeries on. I have a handicapped parking permit and all because I am partially disable in my leg. Between that and my back, the doc basically said that with a pregnancy I would be put on bed rest toward the ned because I would be in a lot of pain. The docs already know I would have to have a scheduled c section because I cannt lie in the "brithing" position without being in extreme pain. I dont know what to do. Im so upset. He wants me to try 1 shot--which I am willing to do but the procedure seems so invasive. ANy info would be greatly appreciated.

Oh my gosh what a coincidence my mom just had this done yesterday! Of course I couldnt help you with the pregnancy questions - I am sorry. But I do know she had her first in a series of 3 epidurals. Shes feels fine right now, in fact she went to work today. (Shes a school nurse if that helps you, she moves around a lot) She said it wasnt that bad but her husband had to drive her home of course.

eta - I just called her and she said she feels about 80% better today.

I work p/t for a doc and we send patients for this procedure often. I would love to tell you that everyone has a 100% success rate. Realistically everyone is going to respond differently. I can tell you that I have never heard any horror stories and usually there is at least some relief. Good luck!
