Has anyone ever used a baby scale so you could weigh your own baby...
Was just curious about this.
I wanted to do a month by month growth chart with DS's picture but never got around to it and now at 8 months old, it's too late to start.

Re: Has anyone ever used a baby scale so you could weigh your own baby...
People used to be shocked at first when I told them I used a fish scale to weigh DS. The kind with the hook on the end that you put in the fish's mouth...
Then I would explain that I would weigh the infant carrier, zero out the weight, then put him in the carrier. It was pretty accurate, and was easy to do. I also liked the reactions I got from people...

Yeah but how would you figure out the weight? Wouldn't being inside the infant carrier give it more weight?

I think that is why you weigh the carrier first. Then, you can either change the scale to the starting point it the weight of the carrier or you just subtract the weight of the carrier from the combined weight of carrier + baby. This difference is the weight of your baby.

I just get on the scale holding Molly, note the weight, then get on the scale bymyself and subtract the two and you have the baby's weight.

Ok so I just tried it and I got 17lbs. But when DS went to the doctor on the 3rd he was 16lbs 7oz. Is the scale off by 9 ounces then? or is it possible they may have made a mistake?

did you weigh him with his diaper on??? that is why its probably off a tiny bit. i bet they made you take off his diaper at the doctors, right?? if not. not all scales are the same. a couple of ounces off either way is fine. hes perfect!!

Re: Has anyone ever used a baby scale so you could weigh your own baby...
My inlaws gave me a very old baby scale they've had for years and we used it when Ellie was younger b/c we had concerns about how much she was gaining while she was nursing. It's ancient though. It's the kind that you have to add actual weights to it as the baby gets bigger.

I never even knew they sold baby scales - or rather never thought about weighing the baby since we've been taking her to the doctor every month and find out anyway.

dh and I were just talking about this a few nights ago. I didn't know they sold baby scales. Some of me would like to get one (to see how DH is doing) then some of me says just wait for the next dr. appt.

I'm surprised I haven't gotten it yet since I am obsessed with his weight...
I hope these scales are accurate though...

Re: Has anyone ever used a baby scale so you could weigh your own baby...
We have a baby store that has breast-feeding near us that you could can come in, feed the baby, weigh her etc. Its great if you are breastfeeding and want to make sure she is getting enough. They also let you weigh her first and then breastfeed and then weigh again to see how much she is taking in. I am in love with this place.

And if I did have one of these places by me I probably would be in there everyday.
