Has anyone every hired a private event planner?

Can you tell me what type of event it was. Pros or cons? Any info you could provide would be greatly appreciated as as I’m contemplating starting an event planning business and doing research.

It's not the kind of business you think it is. I'm a corporate meeting planner now but I used to work in PR and had a side-business doing events and with the onslaught of Pinterest and DIY, no one hires event planners really anymore. I used to do lots of weddings and there is still a niche for that but not like it used to be. It's all nights/weekends. You have to be able to make things - candy buffets, name cards/tags, seating lists/charts, crafts, etc. You have to be able to make the things non-DIY people are willing to pay for. There isn't much money to be made unless you have high-end clientele and high-end budgets and high-end contacts. A lot of it is who you know.

I used a day of planner for my wedding. We met a couple times before the wedding and she obv ran stuff the day of. I don’t think I would have made it Throught the day without her. She organized everything for me. Before the wedding, we went over my check list (which she gave me at our first meeting and kept up with me over the months of planning be sure I was on top of everything ) I gave her all tip out envelopes on the wedding day and she handled everything from morning to night. My moms dressed ripped down the back (zipper issue) and i didn’t find out til next day. She brought my on in bridal suite and fixed it for her. There was an issue with our limos - she took care of it. And our photographer as well, she had contract with her to show him where he was wrong. All things I didn’t want to deal with the day of my wedding. She also reminded me to breathe quite a few times.

I didn’t use her to make stuff - but when I wanted specific things, I asked her for advice on how to go about it, etc.

Has anyone every hired a private event planner?

No, but being a wedding planner is my dream job so if you want a partner, I'm in!
