Has anyone found a nail polish that doesn't chip in like 2 days?

So frustrating. I do my nails and a day or two later they are starting to chip and 3 days later they look like utter cr@p.
I shouldn't have to get manicures (or do my nails myself) more than once a week- it's just ridiculous!
We can send people to space, but we can't find a way to make nail polish last?

I have tried all the expensive brands, different top coats, base coats- nothing seems to work.

Anyone have any miracle products or tips?

TIA!! Chat Icon

I have one at home that's "chip proof". I think its revlon. I do a lot of typing (thanks LIF) so I usually start to chip in 2-3 days. I noticed with the revlon, I went a good 5 days before I started to chip. I'll see if I can find the specific name for you.

ETP - Its the revlon colorstay

I bought cover girl nail polish- and no chips! for a week!

Chanel also doesn't chip- but that's $18 a bottle

I do my own nails now- b/c of the chipping- mine was chipping the next day!

I feel like they do something to make it chip so you come back sooner

Rimmel lasted about 6 days for me - and it was a dark color (black).

Otherwise, I use an OPI Base and then topcoat and that prolongs my polish for 4'ish days.

I bought Sally Hansen nail polish (Beyond Perfect) last week and it lasted a full 4 days without a single chip. and I am always washing my hands. I thought that was pretty good.

See, Chanel chips like mad on me.

I am convinced that salon's thin out their polish with remover and that's why it chips so quickly.

I bought a Cover Girl one - I believe it's Continous Color -in a bright red and i couldn't believe how well it lasted. Usually my nail polish is chipped and crappy looking in a day, but this one really lasted a good while.

I have many bottles of Essie, and it chips just as fast as at the salons. SO ANNOYING! Chat Icon

Re: Has anyone found a nail polish that doesn't chip in like 2 days?

From what I've found base coat and top coat are key- make sure that you either use one that is base/top or that you use one base coat and a different top coat. When they're seperate, they really do work differently. I also love Sally Hansen stuff, so any of her base and top coats I've found to work well.

But what REALLY works is that when you're applying your nail polish at each step (base, color, top) is that after you paint your nail, turn your hand over so that you're looking at your palm and paint a tiny little coat of paint on the very edge of your nail- they part that would hit something if you were tapping your nails on it. It almost creates a barrier so that your nails are stronger and so that you color doesn't chip as fast. But you have to do this with each step. I also do 2 coats of top coat when I do my nails.

I never get manicures because I think that they don't last, but trust me, I've been doing my own nails for a while now and I can easily go a week without chipping if I do the above steps.

Hope that that helps!

I've been using Sally Hansen products.

I start with Sally Hansen Double Duty base and topcoat.

Then for color, I use Sally Hansen Diamond Strength no-chip nail color. (It has a little rhinestone, umm, "diamond", on the bottle).

I think you are right! The nail salons thin out the polish with polish thinner- I have seen them do it. And I swear that is why they chip so much faster.
Thanks for the advice- I will try the cover girl!

Try a rubber based base coat. the Essie one has a greenish tint. Your polish will stick to it better.

Me too! It's a great way to save some cash and I am becoming a pro at it.
Plus who wants to deal with the aggrevation of sitting there waiting- when you had an appointment but they always over booke!
When I first started doing my own, it would look like I dipped my fingers in a can of paint! Chat Icon

YES! This stuff is AMAZING! I also chip within...hmmm...seconds of getting my nails done. This is the only polish I can use without having that problem.
