Has anyone gone to a nutrionist?
I've never been to one and I'd like to know what to expect. How often do you visit them? What kind of diet should I expect? Thanks!

I have never been, but I was looking for one and never found one.
Sorry I am of no help, but if you do find a good one, please let me know.

Re: Has anyone gone to a nutrionist?
I have one. I don't go to be put on a diet per say, more of a nutrition plan. They will first talk to you to find out what kind of plan do you need. Are you looking to lose weight or are you going for a specific nutrition issue? From there, they will work a food plan around your lifestyle, food likes/dislikes and nutiritional needs. A good nutritionist will talk to you first. I had one years ago, just give me a meal plan to follow, she didn't even ask me if I liked certain foods, when I looked at it, the whole meal plan revolved around me eating things I didn't like. That to me was waste of my time and money. I just threw her plan in the garbage on my way out.
I go twice a month as per my doctors request.

Was it expensive? Covered at all by insurance? If you don't mind sharing them, can you FM me the info?
Thanks

Re: Has anyone gone to a nutrionist?
They will definately work with you and your issue. You just need to be honest about what you like/don't like and are willing to do. If you tell them you'll cut out sugar and don't do it, it isn't going to be much help to you. You have to go in totally honest and truthful. That is the only way it will work. The first session will probably just be talking then and by the next meeting he/she should have a plan for you or possibly sometimes they will email it to you the next day.

Re: Has anyone gone to a nutrionist?
I went and honestly it didn't work out for me. I was going for weight issues, but this was actually before we realized my weight issues aren't actually because I eat badly although I could definitely eat a lot better..
I was really unhappy because she seemed to have ONE diet for weight loss and when i told her it wasn't going to work for me, she didn't listen. She wanted me on a low carb diet, and since I don't eat meat but ai do eat some fish she wanted me to eat fish basically every day. It wasn't going to work out because I don't feel comfortable eating more fish, inf act I'd rather eat less, and low carb diets are a surefire way for me to get sick and pass out, but at the time I didn't have the blood tests backing that up. She kind of treated me like I was stubborn because I didn't want to follow that plan and asked about alternatives and acted like ti was the only way to lose weight. She didn't even really consider the soy products that are a staple of my diet. I wonder what she does with vegans.
And it was $100 a session and not covered by insurance. She also wanted me to take an obscene amount of vitamins every day...so it really didn't work out for me, but I hope it works out for you
If you have a specific medical issue, that specialist may actually be better prepared to gve you a diet. Like a gastroenterologist or allergist or whatever the case may be,.

Re: Has anyone gone to a nutrionist?
I have gone - they have you bring a food journal with you of everything you put in your mouth for say a week. I didn't find it all that helpful b.c mine told me I was eating properly so that wasn't my issue
