Has anyone gotten a ticket for not stopping at a stop sign?
I got a ticket, and the cop said just pay the fine listed on the back. No where does it list the amount for missed stop sign--it lists running a red light, and then there is an "other" cost for ones not listed. I am not sure how much the fine is, and of course I can't get anyone on the phone. TIA.
P.S. I totally stopped. He said you need to stop and count to 5.

id fight that!!
from the NYSDMV handbook
STOP Sign COLOR: Red, with white letters.
MEANING: Come to a full stop, yield the right-of-way to vehicles and pedestrians in or approaching the intersection. Go when it is safe. You must come to a stop before the stop line, if there is one. If not, you must stop before entering the crosswalk. (See "Stop and Crosswalk Lines" under the "Pavement Markings" section of this chapter.) If there is no stop line or crosswalk, you must stop before entering the intersection, at the point nearest the intersection that gives you a view of traffic on the intersecting roadway.

I tried to fight something in Suffolk before, and the judge just threw out everything and totally sided with the cops. It just isn't worth an afternoon of my life. It isn't right, but I feel like in Suffolk they never ever overturn the tickets.

I know what you mean but isnt it a moving violation and points on your license and maybe making your insurance go up??

It's three points. I would fight it, but I just know it wouldn't do any good.

dont say that it wouldn't do any good. maybe your count 1-5 is faster than the cops. sometimes the judge just gets ticked off because the tickets are so stupid.
I once got a parking ticket in South Hampton for parking where the cop told me to park...the same cop is the one who wrote the ticket. I argued with the guy that there is a no parking sign posted and he told me that its ok because he says so...so I took his badge # down, and my friend took his picture with her disposable camera...(when he wasn't looking) the judge yelled at the cop and told me to have a nice day...sorry my morning was wasted with such nonsense.
My FH is a cop and he hates going to court...he does everything he can to get out of it...(he of course goes for any actual crime...but tries to get out of traffic court) he tells me all the time that most other cops hate court also. IF the cop doesn't show for the court date I think it becomes an unfounded ticket.

I think you have to go two or three times to court if the cop doesn't show in order to have it thrown out. Thing is, I will get there, say I stopped, and he will say I paused. It will be my word against his, and I just don't see them siding with me.

FH tells me all the time that certain Judges dont like certain cops....so the judge sides with the civilian...its worth a try...what the worst that could happen...you are planning on paying the ticket anyway.

I got pulled over the other morning for that at 5:45am on my way to work. He didn't give me a ticket though, just a warning.

Must've been the same a-hole who pulled me over. And I did go to court to fight it. The stupid cop even admitted I was going WAAAY under the speed limit. But of course, I still got the ticket for "pausing" for the stop sign Generally speaking, law enforcement in Suffolk SUX!!
I had the benevolent society for S/C cops call me for a donation on Saturday. So I said to the guy "My husband got a b.s. ticket on Christmas, consider THAT your bonus" and hung up! (a cat ran in front of the car and he swerved to avoid it. The cop gave him a ticket for crossing the line ).

I got a ticket for it, fought it and had it reduced to a no seat belt. It was quite easy for me - just a hassle to go to court.

Re: Has anyone gotten a ticket for not stopping at a stop sign?
You can plead not guilty and when you go to court, not fight it, just ask the judge if you can pay the fine, but not get points. I hear they will do that sometimes.
