Has anyone gotten cavities filled when pregnant?
I have a cavity on each side of my mouth. They have been there for awhile, but, I am embarrassed to admit, I ignored them while dealing with the RE's office and because I just didn't have the money for it at the time.
Unfortunately- they are getting worse. One of them especially. I know you can't have x-rays done while you're pregnant, but i'm not sure about novacaine or anything. Does anyone know?

I had to get a root canal and a post and core a few weeks ago. I am so glad I did it. I was in soo much pain and it def couldn't wait until after DD was born.

You CAN get dental xrays while pregnant. I've had cavities filled, a molar extraction and an attempted root canal. (in my case, my mouth just fell apart all at once).
You can get xrays, make sure they double lead vest you, and add thyroid protection (they'll know but mention it anyway). You can have a lidocaine shot with no epinephrine. Again, they'll know but make sure you mention it. Epinephrine is the stimulant in novocaine that you cannot have when pregnant.
Also, you should try and wait until your second trimester if possible . This is the best time to have dental work done. If you absolutely cannot wait until then, then each dentist will perform work on a case by case basis, but they prefer to wait until you're in your second trimester.

I did, but waited til the second trimester. My OB was okay with it, my dentist was actually the more conservative one. He was not comfortable doing xrays - instead he used some funky high tech camera to see what the issues were.
Feel better!
