Has anyone had a collection of blood behind the placenta?

I went to the doc yesterday bc I was having painful cramping lasting more that 10 hours. He did an exam and thinks I might have an infection but he is sending my labs out. He then sent me for an ultrasound where they found a collection of blood behind my placenta. He said it could cause bleeding and pre term labor and contractions.
Does anyone have any experience with this. It is kind of making me worried. I have to go back for another ultrasound in 2 weeks.

btw I am 24 weeks

I'm not sure if it's the same but I had a large blood clot in my first trimester- big enough that they thought the baby wouldn't make it. I have a pic in my album, I think. I did bleed out and a piece of the placenta detatched, but i'll be 35 weeks on Monday and all is still well. I have to go for NSTs and Biophysicals everyweek and have a sono & consult at the high risk every 4 weeks along with seeing my OB every 2 weeks. It's alot, but they have to monitor the growth of the baby and make sure everything is good.

I had one towards the end of my first trimester. My high risk dr described it more as a separation of the placenta & uterine wall. My reg OB nearly gave me a heart attack with his explanation. They kept an eye on it & monitored me- hoping that it would heal itself, thank God it did.. The baby is healthy but I'm still being monitored for it Good luck to you!
