Has anyone had bunion surgery
I have had them since I was a teenager. I hate my feet...but I am scared to have the operation done....but I don't want my toes to start crossing on their own....especially since they are super long...seriously, I HATE MY FEET.

Re: Has anyone had bunion surgery
Me - both feet. No regrets at all but I have to say the first few days afterwards were very painful.

That's pretty excessive. His bunions must have been VERY bad.

how long after were you able to resume "normal" activities...like gym going and such...
I am afraid I'll fix my feet at the expense of the rest of me!

Re: Has anyone had bunion surgery
My best friend had it done in August on one foot. She just recently started wearing heels again. She regrets getting it done....she said she wishes she hadn't done it and that it hasn't made a bit of difference, except now she has this nail bit in her foot....she is still in pain all the time.

My sister had it done on one foot, along with something done to her toes. She regrets getting it done and won't be going back for the second foot.

Re: Has anyone had bunion surgery
I'm going to need it eventually, but I'm putting it off till they hurt and cause more problems. I always heard it hurt badly. I also think that you have to wear the soft shoe cast and that would make my commute difficult.

Re: Has anyone had bunion surgery
I have seriously considered it and have heard some good stories (like Nrthshrgrl's) and some bad.
Unless and until it's really awful, I'm just going to adjust my footwear - I don't want to take the risk.

Re: Has anyone had bunion surgery
My aunt had it done and regretted it. She also never got the second foot done. Mine are really ugly, but they don't hurt so I am doing nothing for now.

Re: Has anyone had bunion surgery
I have been working for a podiartist for 15 years. One word of advice be very careful who does the surgery. I would not go to anyone who advertises. That said, normal recovery time is 6-8 weeks till you are in a regular shoe. they will give u pain med's, but I have heard from patients it is not too bad , maybe a day or so of the pain. Also u might have residual swelling up to a year. I am not a doctor but this is what I have heard. HTH ETA: Did u try custom made orthotics?

I worked for a podiatrist for 4 years as well and totally agree. Some podiatrists just "shave" the bone rather than actually moving the bone into the correct position. Orthodics are a great alternative!
