Has anyone had their gallbladder removed?
Was it a tough surgery and recovery? I may be facing needing to have this done and am a little curious.

Re: Has anyone had their gallbladder removed?
I had it removed in Feb. It's a quick surgery. It's a laparoscopic surgery. They go in thru your belly button. They also go in 3 other spots. But, they aren't to big. They gave me disolvable stitches. The surgery took less then an hour & I spent the night at the hospital. It wasn't to bad. But, tender. The whole not being able to sleep on my side drove me nuts. I only took pain meds when I came home & had to sleep flat. I made sure that I slept sort of upright at the hospital. Helps the gas come up. (from having the air get inside you) I was feeling pretty good by a week or so. I also took stool softners when I got home. The whole fear of hurting something. And my back hurt from bending to over compensate the pain. Also I remember afterwards not loving the taste of any food for a while.
Hope this helps!

I forgot you had it done! Why did you need to have it removed?

Same experience here. Only thing I have to add is ask for extra pillows at the hospital to put under your knees - elevating them will stop the skin at the incision site from stretching, and it makes it a bit more comfortable.

Re: Has anyone had their gallbladder removed?
Yes, I have had my gallbladder removed. One piece of advice.....do not lay down flat in bed when you get home. Not going to lie to you.....I had it done Lap....getting up after lying down was not pretty....slept in a recliner for a few days. ike pp said 3 incisions....not a big deal at all....they knock you out and wake up when it is over......just so you know you will have sign a consent form incase they can't do it lap and need to open you up. My mom had hers out and she was back to work in 2 days...she had it lap also...I think I was out for about 5 days.....made it last a little longer

Re: Has anyone had their gallbladder removed?
I had mine out lap also. I was in the hospital longer. According to the surgeon my gall bladder was "very sick". I did a lot of recovery in the hospital. By the time I got home I felt better but a little sore. DH had to work so my inlaws took DS for the day (it was a Friday, thank goodness) and I just kept myself in the recliner for the day. The surgery itself was pretty easy. I also had to sign something saying it was OK to "open up" if the lap. wasn't going to be a success.

Re: Has anyone had their gallbladder removed?
I had mine done 10 years ago (I was 17 which many dctrs since have said is too young). The dctr took out my appendix at the same time-like a two for one deal I guess- I was back to work in 2 weeks (I was a shampoo girl so it was hard to stand and bend over for a long period of time) Since then, I have felt great, not a single problem since and it was done with a laser so the scars are only noticable to me! Good Luck!
