Has anyone had their kids TESTED into K?
(spinoff to my previous question...)
is there a way I can get her independently tested to prove she can handle being in Kindergarten earlier than the cutoff (we are talking ONE day )

Funny you should post this -- I just came on to post something about being pushed ahead and skipping a year....
I believe you have to go to Prinipal of the school and start there.

The person I know who did it was in Bellmore schools.
Who did you call, the school? Maybe call the District office and see what they have to say.

My SIL's sister fought bigtime over 5 days(missed cutoff) and was told if they do it for one they have to do it for all, so NO. She is in Connetquot.

I think the best route is to place her in private K, that way they will place her in 1st next year.
My niece missed the cutoff by a day also and they would not budge unless she went the private k route because f they allow it for one day, then they have to for 2 etc etc.

Re: Has anyone had their kids TESTED into K?
IMO, I would not fight it. THe cut offs are there for a reason, and honestly, if any of my children were that "late" in the year, I would hold them back anyway. My districts cut off is December 1, and if any of mine were born after October 31, I would have held them back on my own. IMO, 4 years old starting kindergarten is too young. 5 turning 6 is WORLDS away from 4 turning 5. 4 year olds are still babies. I am an advocate of the districts turning the cut off date back to Sept. 1.

Re: Has anyone had their kids TESTED into K?
I'm in NC so I'm probably no help here, but...
My younger one starts a 4 yr old program this August in a Preschool and just this past year they changed the cutoff which is now August 31. He'll be 5 Sept 12 next year. I'm really upset about it. Why should a child, who is ready of course, be held back for just a 12 days? That's not right! I know the cutoffs are there for a reason, but they just seem to keep changing them and that's not right either. It used to be October 12.
So, here, I can pay between $600-$800 to have him tested in the hopes of him passing to get into K. I've heard it's a VERY hard test. But so far I believe he would pass. I'm just going to see where he is earlier next year and then decide. Good luck!
