Re: has anyone not taken the glucose test by choice?
I totally understand this sentiment because I tend to avoid things with the "bad stuff" (with the exception of my love of iced mochas from Starbucks, lol) but I am not sure of any alternatives. And I really don't want to be walking around with GD and not realize it. My logic is hundreds and thousands of mommies have drank it before us, and are fine. We will be too.

has anyone not taken the glucose test by choice?
Let's get something straight about diabetes. You can be the healthiest person on the planet in terms of eating and exercise and you can still have it. It has nothing to do with what you put in your mouth. What you put in your mouth helps control it. Diabetes and GD and dangerous to your health. Why would you risk it because you are concerned about something you drink one time?

I also know someone who was allowed to drink grape juice prior instead. It's really disgusting that doctors can't find a better alternative than a crap ton of chemicals

I wasn't saying to avoid testing for it.. Was just asking about alternative ways.

Oh Dani...don't you love how people on this site can get so snippy/angry because they don't take the time to see what people are really asking... Hope it went well today!

I understand. I see others have said about different alternatives. Many people have a perception of what diabetes is and that if they have a sweet tooth or eat bad, that's how you get it. Just wanted to make the clarification since you mentioned you eat well.

I actually wasn't angry or snippy so sorry if you took it that way. I was pointing out that anyone can get it no matter what you eat.

Drinking the "chemicals" once outweighs the risk of having GD and going untreated. Your baby can die. And just bc u eat right doesn't mean u don't have GD. I know ppl who eat like saints and exercise like crazy while pregnant and still have it.

I know some docs and midwives will let ppl drink orange juice and or have a bagel instead of the normal drink.
ask about that.
I was just going to post this. I remember someone saying that their Dr. Told them they need to take xx grams of sugar and they could take some food alternative (maybe OJ?) instead.

I know this isn't the point of the original thread but I just wanted to say thank you for saying this. I was diagnosed with late onset GD at 36 weeks and I hate when people make negative comments about it. Its been insinuated more than a few times that I must have caused it because of the weight I gained or what I eat and honestly it makes me feel like sh*t. I just want to scream "I've gained 20lbs at 36+ weeks and haven't eaten that badly other than a few indulgences so just back off!".

Don't you love people's assumptions!! I gained 11 lbs by 39 weeks. Baby was 7 lb 12 oz. The anesthesia assistant said she was a big baby and asked DH if I had GD (I didn't). (They way he was talkkn i was sure they were going to tell me she was 9 lbs). He's lucky I was numb from the waist down and hooked up to IV and nauseas or I would have punched him! Went to the ped and she is 60th percentile so pretty much in average zone! Not big.

My midwife had me eat/drink prescribed foods which were thte equivalent of the sugar in "the drink" and then pulled my blood an hour later. This gave us the same results "the drink" would. I believe I are a medium banana and two slices of white bread. I also had the option of a slice of bread and 8ozs of grape juice. I'm not a fan of grape juice so didn't do that. Maybe the food/drink is an option.
