Has anyone read Fast Food Nation?
Should I do it? I was told I would never eat another happy meal again. Thoughts?

Re: Has anyone read Fast Food Nation?
I have it, but haven't read it yet. DH did and he has been off fast food since
I did read Fat Land, and it had a lot of similar themes. I cut out a lot of food items after reading that.

I read it and honestly I eat more fast food than ever, but that's probably b/c i'm pregnant and it's the only thing that sounds good Seriously though, I don't think it will stop you from EVER eating fast food again.

Yeah, the book didn't stop my Wendy's addiction but I don't go to McD or Subway anymore.

Re: Has anyone read Fast Food Nation?
I want to read the book- I thought it was about more then just "fast food"?
I watched supersize and that was enough for me- I don't eat alot of fast food to begin with- maybe 2 times a year

What does it say about McDonalds and Subway but not Wendy's?

Re: Has anyone read Fast Food Nation?
I saw SuperSize me and that did enough... we rarely ate fast food as it was because we're vegetarians, but since then, NEVER. People forget that eating bad food is just as, if not more, damaging to your body than other addictions, like alcohol

not sure abtou in the book, but i read in readers digest that wendys is the healthiest fast food place because they use a different oil than other places... they are ahead of the game

The author writes a lot about McDonald's because all fast food companies model themselves after McD's. He also discusses at length about how Subway started and why it's the worst franchise to own (financially speaking).
But fast food is fast food and they basically get their beef from the same places.
According to this book, In and Out burger (a chain in California) is the best for you - not in terms of lowest caloric content, but the quality of the food.

Re: Has anyone read Fast Food Nation?
It's a great book. I actually did the audiobook. Be prepared though, it's VERY factual and historical in nature. So if that type of thing bores you, you may want to look elsewhere. I also just saw the movie loosely based on the book. It was okay. The last scene is jarring though and I don't think I'll ever forget it.

i actually just picked it up today from the library. I've been eating WAY too much fast food lately, so maybe this will help jump start my break from it

Re: Has anyone read Fast Food Nation?
I want to read it.
We really don't eat that much fast food (I am talking about Mc Donalds, Wendys, Taco Bell).
We eat out at TGIFs and Applebees, but I always try to get grilled chicken or a salad or soup.
I do love Green Cactus, but is that fast food? I am under the impression it is healthy than fast food because it is made fresh with fresh ingredients. I always get the vegetarian burrito with no sour cream and black beans.
Sorry, I went off on a tangent.

Re: Has anyone read Fast Food Nation?
The book poses the question 'what price do you really pay for that value meal' - however, in trying to answer that, the author presents a TON of information regarding the food conglomerates in this country. It ends up going beyond just the fast food restaurant.

I did not read that but I saw "Super Size Me" and have not eaten McDonald's (or any food from a fast food restaurant chain) since... And it has been just over about three years or so since I saw it...
Let me tell you... SCARY
ETA: FYI... I ate a lot of fast food before and it broke me of it- for good. I mean, NEVER again will I eat it and since it has been years with no problem, no craving, no regrets- I think it's something I'm sticking with!

Re: Has anyone read Fast Food Nation?
It's a sociological study...its not fiction in anyway. If you can handle it, read it. You should not be eating fast food to begin with, its not even meat. yuck

Re: Has anyone read Fast Food Nation?
Same here... I didn't read it, but watched the movie Super Size Me.
Besides the movie...what really did it for me was the "extras" on the DVD. Spurlock interviewed the author of Fast Food Nation. Just what he said during that interview put me over the edge.
I'm now approaching my 2 year anniversary of no fast food. To this day drive by a McD's, Wendy, etc. and get sick to my stomach.
