Has anyone read the book "Nurture Shock"
It came up as a suggestion when I was perusing Amazon.com so I decided to buy it. It is taking me a while to get thru it because I don't have any time in my day to read, but it is very interesting! It discusses (among many other topics) how we as parents, are doing our children a disservice with all of the praising we do. The authors, Po Bronson and Ashley Merryman, back up their assertions with many different studies done over the years. DH and I are very interested in learning about different strategies for raising good humans since we see first hand in our jobs in law enforcement, how the youth out there are a coddled bunch of brats. After we both finish reading this book, we are planning to try these ideas out on our older kids, aged 5, 7 and 9. Just thought I'd share if anyone is interested in checking out what the authors call, "new thinking about children."

We did this with our PTA book club. The book was interesting. listening to some of the parents was insane!
