Has anyone replaced windows recently? Where were they from?
Are we better off with places like Lowes or Home Depot, or a place that only does windows, like Windowrama? I'm thinking price but also quality. We are going to do most of the windows in our house.

Three years ago we got our windows replaced (the whole house) and we used US Window Factory. We've been very happy with them. Installation went very smooth too.

We just ordered all new windows today from Windowrama. We used them for our 1st house too. I am not sure why we used that place, but I think I remember DH saying they would come in quicker there? I can ask him later.

we got andersons from windowrama.
we have 42"X42" windows - home depot said they couldn't get them but windowrama could. We went thru our contractor and paid windowrama directly and got his discount.

Thanks ladies. I am waiting to hear from the Lowe's guy for a consultation- but I may contract Windowrama also, just to compare.

Re: Has anyone replaced windows recently? Where were they from?
We just got an estimate from Home Depot to replace 5 basement windows and they quoted us $2600 bucks!! I thought that was a little steep considering you can get a replacement window for a basement for $100 bucks. We're not using them obviously...

Was that for installation too? I bet that drives up the price a lot.
You probably know this- but you get a tax break- my accountant told me that if we spent $5k, we'd get back about $1500 next year. (not that you want to spend that much if you don't need to!)

Re: Has anyone replaced windows recently? Where were they from?
We just ordered windows from Active Doors and Windows. We have a pretty large job, all windows, putting in an anderson bay window, 2 anderson patio doors and a garage door. Will post once they are installed.
We had gotten a quote from Renewal by Anderson, it was about 2X as much, and the salesman that came was a jerk.

Ummm yeah well with their price then that means they were charging us over $400 bucks to install each window. A basement window is the easiest thing you can do that's so ridiculous...

After having a disater with an a/c installation with Sears, I am hesitant to go with any of the retailer's, b/c the installation is not their employees, but its subcontracted out to the lowest bidder, so I think the quality of the installation may be hit or miss. I would go with a window place that has their own installation team.
