Has anyone succeeded in getting an earlier c-section?

I'm just wondering if it's ok to ask for an earlier c-section. I'm now scheduled for 8 days before the due date...

My peanut is kicking the crap out of me lately and he's not even 34 weeks yet. Can't imagine how much worse it's gonna be when he's bigger ...

Has anyone succeeded in getting an earlier c-section?

My doc will not do a csection before 39w unless there is a major medical reason. This is what the Academy of OBs (or whatever they are called) recommends as well. I am scheduled for a csection at 40w bc my doc is away at 39 and I asked if I could have it earlier and she said not unless I go into labor on my own (at which point I can elect to have the c/s at that time. I'm sure it varies by doc.

If you have a pressing medical condition the Dr. can begin checking for lung maturity at 36 weeks through an amnio.

Not necessarily. I believe many if not most hospitals will not do a c-section prior to 39w unless it is an emergency or the lung maturity has been verified.

I had 2 c-sections, the first one scheduled for 5 days before due date (went into labor night before that), and my 2nd c-section was scheduled for 10 days before due date. My doctor won't do them any earlier than 10 days before due date. (did not go into labor before then).

I will if I have a 3rd, but only because I had a failed VBAC with a ruptured uterus.

Unless I had a medical reason, I could not. It was Winthrop's policy. No scheduled c-section prior to 39 weeks. AND they will refuse even just 1 day before exactly 39 weeks.

Yeah I'm not sure how it is everywhere I was just sharing what my doc told me my options were based on my set of specific circumstances

My DS was 10 days early ( c-section due to size) and with this 2nd c-section, my OB will only do 7 days in advance (unless my previa is still an issue)...You really want to try to keep the baby in there as long as possible, as hard as it seems....Even big babies don't mean "mature" babies Chat Icon

Oh I totally understand. Also they might be more lenient with a second PG than a first...etc....

At 36 weeks, my Dr had me do an amnio testing for lung maturity.

It turned out I was actually 37weeks and the lungs were fully matured. DS was born 37 weeks 3 days.

This baby will be a scheduled c-section 7-10 days before my due date. So between 38.5 weeks-39weeks.

Oh I know, no worries - I should have been more specific that I was referring to my own situation. I am dealing with a potentially very large baby (measured at 6lb at 32w and 8lb 5oz at 36w) so they are a bit concerned with his size. Depending on how I am progressing if I do go into labor on my own the c/s might be my best option which may or may not be deemed an emergency at that time (based on how my doc explained it)
