Has anyone transferred from NYS TRS to the NYC TRS?
I'm Tier 4 through the NYS teacher's retirement system, but since becoming a DOE teacher, it says tier 6. Can you transfer your NYS benefits over to NYC and get your previous tier reinstated?

I did vice versa. I tranferred my NYC TRS to NYS TRS. It took a few months to get everything done. I would first start by calling NYC and find out what paper work they need from NYS to transfer your time. It definitely can be done. It may take 8-9 months by the time all is said and done.

okay great- I just wasn't sure who to contact first, if the NYC TRS just handles it, or if i have to contact both- I will do what lazybug said :)
