What do I have to do to transfer time from TRS of NYS to TRS of NYC?

I paid into TRS of NYS when I was a teaching assistant and sub on LI now I am in NYC. I need to transfer this time over...How do I do that?

i had to do something similar when i became a nyc teacher. i had worked for the state first (non-teaching related). i believe i called trs and they sent me the forms. it takes FOREVER (im talking YEARS) for that transfered time to show up. its insane

Are you planning on going back to LI? Don't transfer if you are planning on it, YET.

I never transferred mine (from substituting) when I went into NYC and once I went back to LI, I was happy I didn't.

Kathleen, I've done it the opposite way, from NYC TRS to the state TRS.

unless you're planning to stay in the city for the rest of your career, i would wait a little bit. it's not going anywhere. if you see yourself getting a job on LI in the next few years, i would wait. otherwise, you just have to switch it back over again.

essentially, all you have to do is get paperwork from NYS TRS, fill it out and send it to NYC TRS. it takes awhile, but it does get done.
