Has anyone tried the pick up/put down method from Baby Whisperer?
Just curious- did it work for anyone? It's an alternative to CIO. This is particularly for babies who have to be held all the time to go to sleep. It's kind of a backwards theory in my mind...put them down and if they cry, pick them up. Once they calm down, put them back down. If they cry again, repeat, again again and again. To me it kind of reinforces, "I cry, you pick me up." But her philosophy is that it teaches them to be independent.
Thoughts? Experiences? TIA

I've never heard of that one. If an infant is crying, I pick them up and put them down when they have settled down (or just hang on to them for a while anyway).

Oh I'm sorry, I wasn't clear at all...this is like another CIO method where you don't leave the room.

Ah-gotcha.
I've never heard of it, I'd be curious to hear how it works though. Seems counterintuitive to me too.

Re: Has anyone tried the pick up/put down method from Baby Whisperer?
I followed the Baby Whisperer with my DD and I would do that with her on nights that she wouldn't settle easily. But, my opinion, is that it has to fit your child's disposition. My DD would for the most part always go down very easily. Picking her up absolutely did not make the situation worse, but I can see how it can happen that way for some. This was just an alternative for me instead of using full-on CIO. I would also do it for naps. But, as I said, she would rarely not settle.

Yup. We did it. One night when we thought we'd transition Yael out of her rocker into her crib. Took about 2 hours and finally she fell asleep and stayed asleep for 5 hours, woke to eat for 10 minutes and back down for 3. But we though because it took 2 hours that maybe she wasn't quite ready for the crib so we abandoned ship the next night.
In about 2 weeks I'm going to do it again instead of the extinction method
