Has anyone used Ancestry.com to find past relatives?
I have info that only goes back so far. I didn't know if it would be worth the money.

I signed up for three months a few years ago and it greatly helped my search. They have a free 2 week trial I think.

Re: Has anyone used Ancestry.com to find past relatives?
I've had a lot of success using Ancestry to help with my ancestors in the U.S. But for international research, I 've had to mostly use other sources. So I'd say it depends on where your ancestors were from/how far back you're looking.

Re: Has anyone used Ancestry.com to find past relatives?
It will help you so much, if your relatives are from here. If you are looking for international info, you need to pay an extra fee per month. Depending on your families nationality it might be really really hard to find info. For example, my mom is Polish and her maiden name is a typical long, difficult Polish last name. It was such a pain and took years to find info on that side of the family because on every single document including birth/death certificates, draft records, census records, etc their last name was spelled differently in all of them making the search engine worthless. I had to search by how the last name sounds instead of how it's spelled, etc. Also, on my dads side of the family, they have a very easy last name but I couldn't find one piece of the puzzle on the search engines at all. I finally did by accident. The reason it wasn't coming up was because the last name was Nolan but someone that put the 1910 census records into the Ancestry database thought that it said Wolan, because of the cursive N. The only reason I found my relatives was because I was searching the census by town, not last name.
I do this a lot, I know all the "tricks" I would love to make a career out of it. If you have any questions feel free to ask me.
