Have a drs. appt this morning...

Since I'm over 35 and TTC for over six months, I have to go in for testing.

What should I expect?
What should I be asking for?

Thanks, Ladies.

Depends, are you going to see an RE or an OB?

Despite what everyone assumes OB's have little training on infertility issues so I'd suggest you see an RE asap.

They will ask you about your cycle.
If you chart bring them. If you don't I'd suggest you do. Don't let a doctor tell you, oh, we don't go by those, like one doctor told me. It's one of the most reliable and oldest methods. Needless to say, that doctor is no longer my doctor.

They should set you up for comprehensive blood work. This is a battery of bloodwork, about 16 vials. I was so glas Gertyrae told me that before I went or I would have Chat Icon once I got there. I got mine done at Quest

They should also get a semen analysis done on DH. This is the first line of defense because it's easier to rule this out.

When you get your period the next time they will want you to come in for CD3 bloodwork and a sonogram. These are considered baseline tests for everytime you get your period your system is starting all over a gain. They will check your hormones and your ovaries with an internal sonogram. I know, sounds gross because AF will be here but you get used to it.

That's all I'll write for now. I don't want your head to spin too muchChat Icon

Best of luck and ask lots of questions.Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Have a drs. appt this morning...

Thanks, T

I (we) will be having all of those tests plus a here it goes, a hysterpsalpingograpgy (whew..say that five times) to rule out blockage in my tubes.

I went to my OB first since I felt I should go to them first since they know by history (been there for 10- years).

I just hated seeing the word "infertility" on the referral sheets.

Yes, it's hard. I conveniently forgot about the HSG... oh, joyChat Icon I'm a big baby and never had any pain at all in my life... I've just been a painChat Icon Well, mine hurt for a about a second but it was a sharp pain for a second. If it was any longer I would have kicked Dr. Rosenfeld in the headChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon My foot was right by his headChat Icon

Yes, it's very hard to say that word. That's why I swear you see a lot of girls on TTC for a long time and they don't post here. Honestly, after the 6-9 month mark there is often an infertility issue. Goood that you are being proactive. I was 35 and refused to wait 6 months because I had irregular periods for years so I lied when I made the appointmentChat Icon and said we were married for longer. Good thing I did because almost a year later and we are still trying.

I was in Denial of my infertility for some time. But, I found this board very helpful and informative. I did get my HSG done which revealed small hydrosalphinx. Best of Luck to you!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

good luck!! we kept a looseleaf notebook with every single paper we got from this process-info sheets, consent forms, instructions, insurance information, results of tests, calender, etc. it really helps to keep organized because you are going to get alot of information.

Thanks...still hoping it's really nothing, but for some time now, I just felt in my gut that something wasn't right. I guess the tests in the next few weeks will tell the real story. Gotta love the look on DH's face when I said the words "semen analysis" to him. You would have thought I told him that he has to have his nutz exposed for all the world to see.

Will update as I get results.
