Have any of you ever tasted cakes/pastries from Cake Boss/ Carlos Bakery?

I watch his show, and wondered if the cakes taste as good as they look. Mary

They're ok... nothing out of the ordinary for me and definitely not worth the 2 hour wait.

Dortoni's in Levittown is much better.

I haven't but I am guessing more that he got the show because of his personality and not his skills.

We were watching an Ace of Cakes episode a few months ago and Duff was very subtle but ripped him a nice one.

He talked about going to the minor leagues then showed a sign that said "Back to NJ" and then at another point said "Hey - we dont just make sheetcakes here and throw related items on top. We make real cake sculptures here."

My father in law is in the bakery business and everyone knows everyone and their little dirty secrets. I have never been to Carlos but I wouldn't because he does something I find to be racist.

interesting.

i live in nj and have never been.
i do hear wonderful things about their cannolis, but that's about it.

i'm open to trying it, IF i'm already in the area AND IF there aren't many people there... but who knows

DH did at work and he said it was nothing special AT ALL. Just a typical, but good Italian bakery cake.

No but DH and I met him and his wife in Sicily --they were filming their show! Very nice people.

I attended an event recently that had a Cake Boss cake. The cake itself was very cool, but it just tasted like....cake. Nothing to write home about. I'm partial to a box of Betty Crocker though! Chat Icon

I watch the show as well, but sometimes I think the show is just fake...maybe it's just me.

I had to be in that part of NJ with relation to my job and it was by chance we passed right by the bakery (Carlos')... the line was literally around the corner! I had told myself that if it was a bit shorter I maybe would have waited Chat Icon

The doctor that treats my brother had a fundraiser in Manhattan and the Cake Boss offered to make a cake. It was a gigantic multi-colored brain, lol. It was absolutely delicious. He also made rainbow cookies which DH loved. Everyone raved about the cake. I find his personality on the show kind of annoying lol but his food was good.

Hi, Danielle!!!! How's your Brother, hon? Wow, do you have pics of that brain cake? Was that ever featured on the Cake Boss? I'm amazed at the hugeness of those cakes sometimes, and always wait with baited breath, to see if they'll get them to the truck safely, and to the final destination, safely!!!! Mary

My friend at work has gone twice and brought a cake to work both times. It was cake. Nothing spectacular, but not horrible by any means.

Very well, thank you. He is walking at home with a cane and continues to walk at therapy - now working on just holding onto a handrail, NO cane, while at therapy. His speech is fantastic - he can pretty much find a way to get out anything he wants to say. We are working on sentence structure and becoming conversational. He is just sailing along - and is so happy. Thank you again! Chat Icon

One of the guys in the office brought back red velvet cupcakes from Carlos. I wasn't impressed. Kind of a let down actually.

As far as the Cake Boss goes--I've had his crumb cake which is amazing and my friend had them do her wedding cake which was good.

I've had cupcakes from there that were ehhh. One of the guys I work with lives in Hoboken. Hoboken residents don't wait in line for CB goods!

They do not. I live in Hoboken and have tried his cake. We had one made for my MIL. Looked great - tasted okay.
