Have you ever asked school administration to make sure your child does NOT end up in a class with someone?

My daughter has a girl in her class who seems to be obsessed with her. this girl demands my daughter's undivided attention, constantly asks her for her snack and lunch (which my daughter gives away leaving herself hungry), asking to re-braid her hair, pulling her clothes, "helping" her eat resulting in my daughter coming home covered in chocolate milk because the girl demanded to hold the chocolate milk container while my daughter was drinking out of it. The list goes on... This started earlier in the year and I was hoping it will stabilize as the year progressed but unfortunately, things remained the same all the way to the end.

I really want to request they are separated next year. Do you think it's a good idea and a request that can be honored, or will it only make matters worse? Chat Icon Chat Icon

It's very common for parents to ask that their child be separated from another, and the request is always honored in the district I live in and in the one I work in. That said, classes are probably already made for next year and I'm pretty sure most schools would be reluctant to start swapping kids around at this late date.

Ask anyway. It can't hurt.

Def ask. Hopefully her teacher already made sure they were separated.

I requested that a certain boy not be in my son's K class. I never thought my son would be bullied in pre-K by another pre-K student but it happened.

I did document several incidents throughout the year and submitted a written request to the principal by April 1.

It can't hurt to ask.

I did - a couple months ago before they did class assignments. My request was granted. :)

They keep requests confidential. I wouldn't hesitate to request it if I were you.

Act quickly though - they make up classes soon.

I heard this is true as well. I don't really get it though. How can a school always make certain that people's laundry lists of kids aren't in their child's class? I know someone in particular who does this and she is ridiculous. In your situation, 1child seems fine.

We requested last year and the year before that DS not be in a class with one particular boy and the request was granted both times.

Thank you, everyone! I contacted her teacher who said that she already requested for the girls to be separated but that I should feel free to follow up with the administration, with I did and was informed that the girls are indeed in different classes next year. I am so relieved! Chat Icon

Yes, I was very grateful! We discussed it earlier and I mentioned to her that I really hope they are not in the same class next year and she knew there was an issue as well, so it was only natural she requested the separation! Which reminds me, I need to email her back and thank her for being pro-active!

I am not a letter writer but I did for the year coming up. I had to.
