Have you ever been fitted for a bra?

Tim Gunn's Guide To Style got me thinking...I have never been properly fitted for a bra! I always buy 34B, but lately, with all my yoga and stuff, I've gotten more pec strength/development and it's not so much that my chest has gotten bigger, but something has changed and now some of my bras are ill fitting. I don't want to go to La Perla or anything fancy like that. Does VS do fittings? I guess I could just measure myself.

Re: Have you ever been fitted for a bra?

I went to the one store in Hicksville... Georgettes I think the name is? I definitely recommend it. I ended up with a different brand and slightly different size than I had been wearing, and the fit worked out much better for me.

About VS - I asked for a measurement there once because I wasn't crazy about how my current bra fit and wanted to try something else. The girl just wrapped a tape measure around me OVER all my clothes (it was winter - I was wearing layers and there's no way she got accurate numbers) and then directed me to the same size and style I'd already been wearing. When I said I'd tried that one and it didn't fit right, she suggested I maybe try another size up or down and see. Um, yeah, if I wanted to just try on a bunch of different sizes, I would've done that in the first place and not asked for a fitting! Maybe it's different in different stores, but I wasn't thrilled with that.

I was measured at VS yers ago & they told me I was the size I thgouthI was, whichdidn'thelp b/c things didn't seem to fit right.

Later I went to Town Shop (upper west side) & was bigger than I thought, but this was after I gainged weght, so I'm not sure if VS was wrong, but I had a better experience at Town Shop.

Some department stores do them too, but it might only be at certain times.

Re: Have you ever been fitted for a bra?

Thanks, girlies. This is helpful. I just realized in my favorite bra I have....gasp....a touch of side boobage. I need all new sports bras, too. I notice them not fitting too great. I realized this once while i was teaching yoga at Stony Brook. DH was like: that's why so many dudes show up to your class. LOL
Lululemon DOES have awesome sports bras, but they are $$$. I'm teaching a class there soon and the manager gave me a tank with a built-bra. Would love to own an entire collection like this. But this particular tank is $52!

Re: Have you ever been fitted for a bra?

VS does fittings. I went to Blums in Patchogue for a fitting. To be honest, you are best just trying them on and finding what is most comfy and looks best under your clothes!

Re: Have you ever been fitted for a bra?

I buy my bras at Nordstrom (Wacoal brand) and every once and a while I'll get fitted to make sure I'm the same size, especially if I have been working out a lot.

Re: Have you ever been fitted for a bra?

I've had it done at VS..

It was actually quite funny because I told the girl what size I thought I was (the size I had been wearing) and she looked at me and said there's no way my boobs are that big..( maybe because I'm short or something..? Who knows why..)

Well.. she measured me and I was actually one number size BIGGER than I thought I was..

yes, before my wedding and after having DD when I went to Macys.

They were so nice at Macys considering no one makes my size. Chat Icon

Re: Have you ever been fitted for a bra?

PLEASE don't get fitted at VS.

my sister used to work there and trust me when i say they do NOT know hot to measure you properly.

i would recommend going to a place like georgette's in hicksville or blum's in patchogue, they will measure you properly and even though their bras are more expensive (although probably comparable to some at VS) it is totally worth it to go just for the fitting.

No...but some make-over person on Oprah says most women need to go down a cup, up a back size

and that actually worked for me.

Yep - I have been to Georgette's in Hicksville (winded up hating the bras they sold me), and Mary's Corseterie in Woodbury where I had a better experience and still have the bras they recommended!

I got fitted at Nordstrom a few months ago. The lady was really helpful. I guess they have a lot of people getting fitted because there's a sign in sheet in the dressing room. I didn't have to wait at all and what a difference! I feel so much more comfortable and my bras now fit right.

I know! Plus, so few of their bras come in D cups. So once when I was looking at a bra and asked if it came in a 34D, the woman handed me a 36C and told me it was the same thing - that the bigger number (back measurement) compensates for the smaller cup size. Chat Icon

Um, yeah, I'm really, really sure that that is not how it works. And I don't work in a bra store, I just know 'cuz I've had b00bs for 18 years.

Do itttt!

I really do think it's one of the best things you can do for yourself and it's absolutely amazing how much better you can look just by wearing the right size bra!

I would not go to VS either! Definitely try some places mentioned above. I go to Nordstrom's in Roosevelt Field.

Re: Have you ever been fitted for a bra?

dont get fitted at VS they will only fit you for their bras and to be honest they dont have a CLUE!!!!

i went to georgettes..and to be honest i was BLOWN away and what she told me!!! shes very touchy feely but is AMAZING... i was wearing a 34b for as long as i could remember. I walked in there last winter with a turtle neck and a heavy sweater and she told me looking at me what i was wearing. and she laughed and say oh hunny you are wearing the WRONG SIZE... she took out her tape measure and did some measurements.. turns out..

Im a 32 D.... i almost died.. i was laughing so hard i didnt believe her AT ALL.. untill she brought out a bra and it fit PERFECT... no boobage on the sides and none of that not being able to fill the cup fully. it was truely amazing and my clothes have NEVER looked better.

just a side note... i thought she was going to tell me an A.. im VERY VERY VERY tiny. but i guess not if im fit properly!

sorry for the book but i just think its so important to have a bra that fits! go check out Georgette!

I didn't have a good experience at Georgette's, either. I typically wear a 42DD, and they told me I was supposed to be wearing a 46D! I was willing to hear them out, but they brought me some bras in that size and they were WAY too big and I was squeezing out the sides of the cups! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I don't know...I agree with the OP that said that it's probably best just to try on a few different sizes and see what fits the best.
