Have you ever been told to lie by your boss?
What did you do and how did you handle it?
My manager just recently told all of us to "distort the truth" about something that may ultimately benefit the clients and unit that I work on. I don't know...something is not sitting well with me and I see how she would want this for all of us, but I don't want to blatantly lie if asked a certain question by outside facilities, doctors, etc. I am going to try and sit down to talk with her about how I feel about. The situation. Thanks for your input/advice/suggestions and sorry if I am a little vague.

Hell no. Not putting my license and professional reputation on the line for anyone. Especially in this day of fraud investigations. I also work in health care.

No. And if I knew they were lying i made sure it was documented somewhere in an email that I disagreed with the decision to lie.

Thanks for your replies. I just have to add it is nothing illegal, and there is a chance that I may not even be asked this question that would cause me to lie...but the way this situation was presented to me and the what ifs still doesn't feel "right."

Hell no. My industry you could easily be arrested. absolutely. And sorry but distorting the truth is lieing. There are many places that could truly benefit from funding and such that do not because other places distort the truth. If something doesn't feel right it's usually because its not. And again things that seem simple could end up shutting agencies down. I know these places taking money back for wrongful billing claims and such are no joke.

Have you ever been told to lie by your boss?
my industry has required 2hour ethics classes every year to stay licensed.... so no. If it feels wrong then its wrong. And its *MY* license. You want to lie to them, I'll transfer the call to you, but I'm not doing it.

I'd say go with your gut...It's rarely wrong. Do any of your co-workers feel the way you do?

I was asked to take the fall for something that I had no wrong doing in, but I managed to avoid the situation. Very uncomfortable though.

No, and would never do so. It is unethical and a violation of company rules.

Re: Have you ever been told to lie by your boss?
Yup. Multiple times actually. It's disgusting & makes me sick. I've been looking for a new job for over a year now & this is one of the main reasons. I can't work for someone like that anymore

I spoke with some of my co-workers and was floored when one of them told me..."I don't mind lying if it benefits me/ us." Sometimes I truly think I have lost my mind b/c I try to do the honest thing and it seems like I'm the only one ={
I've decided I am going to give a certain response if asked something (not lying) but if questioned will defer to my manager and she can say whatever she wants.
