Have you lost friends due to political differences?
My best friend that I have known for over 30 years did not vote the way I did. Im just wondering if you have lost friends of family due to political differences. She is still posting on facebook her political views constantly and it bothers me. I know I could unfollow her but she posts pictures of her son and family that I like to see. Im just looking at her differently lately.

Have you lost friends due to political differences?
I just stopped posting on FB about politics because I just feel like it just fuels the fire. I have unfollowed a lot of family and friends.

Re: Have you lost friends due to political differences?
I am not as close to a lot of people (friends & family) because of their political views.
I had to stop using Facebook all together around the same time Trump was running and I saw how supportive friends & family were of him. I deleted friends from my account due to their political views. Not many, just a few. Then I stopped using it all together. It got to be too much for me to cope with. And when I saw them IRL, it was difficult for me to really enjoy them the same way.

My entire circle has always disliked my bff’s husband, long before 2016. He is now very vocal about his political views, which all of us disagree with. It has made for a rough situation because we used to suck it up and deal with him but now he’s become unbearable.
I feel bad for my friend because I don’t think she realizes how much we hate him and I don’t want it to cause a rift between us. She’s the closest person to me after DD and DH and I’m not about to lose her because of her ahole husband but it sucks.
My parents have very different views as well but they’ve always been awful people and I expect nothing less.
Luckily, all my other friends and my in laws are on the same page.

It’s been mostly family. I have a few family members who share every.damn.politcal.meme and I can’t take it. I unfriended one cousin because she would post fake things, then tried calling me out about “biased” information when my grandmother (who posts literally everything) posted something false and I was trying to help her. I’ve unfollowed family members, and my mental health is better for it.

Re: Have you lost friends due to political differences?
I only had to cut 1 person out completely and that’s only because unfollow on FB wasn’t enough. He spent every day personally attacking those who didn’t vote his way. I found his posts offensive and started to really dislike him as a person because of it. You can have your views. You can post facts and feelings, but to post daily how “you must be a &$! If you xxx” & daily shaming of people ... I don’t need you in my life.
I’d say a lot of my friends and family are 50/50 and most are respectful of the others choices. But if they post constantly on either side, I just unfollow. I don’t see not being friends with someone just because they are politically different than me. Only if they are nasty about it like my one friend was

Re: Have you lost friends due to political differences?
Friends that MATTER, I have not lost. "Friends" on FB, yes but I don't really care. Honestly, these are people who NEVER have a nice thing to say, don't comment on the happy things in my life or pics of my family but are real quick to start a political debate. I don't need (or want) the drama so I either unfriended or unfollowed many people. No great loss. ((shrug))

If they are my friends I love them for all kinds of reasons. If I only had friends I agreed with I would lose my mind. I value their opinions. I don't do political or religious conversations on FB so I just ignore those poste.

same here. I have stopped following people due to their over-posting of their political views

Re: Have you lost friends due to political differences?
Nope. Within our family there are political differences, but we agree to disagree and do not discuss politics when we are together. I've un-followed some family members who are just too over the top in their posts and I don't want to see that. But then again, these family members are over the top about everything, so no loss there.

Re: Have you lost friends due to political differences?
I haven't lost real friends or ended family relationships. The ones I'm close with who I know or guess we have political differences with - I don't discuss it with them and hold out hope that their beliefs have to do with certain policies more than actually supporting 45. When they post a lot about it -and usually it's very angry or in some cases just ridiculous ******** - then I have unfollowed. I will admit that some of the stuff people post has made me lose some respect for them, but I don't fight about it. I mostly try to steer clear.
