Having a personal chef come on New Year's Eve and...
We are celebrating my inlaws 60th bdays New Year's Eve and decided to have a personal chef come and cook us a 3 course dinner. (we are doing dessert on our own). We are planning on sitting for the first course at 7:30pm. The chef wants to come to my house at 1pm! Does this sound insane to anyone else? What could he possible do for 6 & 1/2 hours?? Its not like we are having anything that would take a long time to prep or cook. Not like he is making a turkey that needs to get in the oven way ahead of time.
ETA: There will be 9 guests and the menu is as follows... Apps - Mushroom Risotto, Crab Cakes, Seared Scallops Salad - w/ roasted pears & shallot vinagrette Entree - stuffed veal sides - sweet potato & artichoke gratin and roasted cauliflower
Nothing I see should take 6 hours to prepare.

i'd probably need to know what the three courses are. If the chef is making soups or sauces, it certainly could take a while...then there is all the chopping and prep work...i dont know...it DOES sound like a lot of time but I'm not a "professional!"

that seems like a long time, however maybe they do a fancy set up and have a lot of prepping?

I don't know- it seems OK to me. If I had to do that, I'd have to start earlier than that. Since I'm not really a professional, I'd say that is OK. It might take him/her time to get used to your oven, set the table, prep, oven space, etc.
